What makes this 6' 4", 290 pounder such an attractive prospect?
"I am good in open spaces, blocking, and getting on the linebackers," added Quin Sanford.
Many are pointing towards Quin's direction as being tagged as the top '08 offensive line prospect from Mississippi.
"I take pride in being the best I can be. If people want to label me as the best at my position, I look forward to proving them right."
Sanford's footwork has attracted college recruiters and that speed was evident by Sanford's days at tight end.
"I played tight end up until this season. I had one of the key TD's against Olive Branch last year. I caught a 34 yard TD. I had 50-60 pancakes that year. I was more of a blocking TE last year. But tight end was not my spot. OL was my spot the whole time. They just needed a tight end, and I wanted to do what ever I could do to help my team. But I think my 5.1 speed (forty) was good enough to get the job done."
Although Quin currently plays left tackle for South Panola; he believes he is better suited for offensive guard.
"That is where they (college recruiters) want me to play. They like how good I am at pulling."
Sanford has already begun to attract the attention of several of the local colleges.
"I am getting a lot of letters from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, USM, and Alabama. MSU has already offered me."
The battle for Sanford's services could come down to the two instate SEC programs, but there is another one lurking around the corner.
"I am thinking about going to MSU or Ole Miss, really. Them two are the highest (on my pecking order), but I want to take a look at Alabama though. They are talking to me too."
What has caught Quin's eye with MSU?
"I went up there for one of their ball games. It is a whole different atmosphere down there. I talked with Coach Croom, and he told me how they do things down there. I do not have any cousins there, but me and Derek (Pegues) are cool."
What about Ole Miss?
"I like Coaches Orgeron and Kehoe and half my cousins play up there like Jamarca (Sanford), Peria (Jerry), and John (Jerry). Chris (Strong), Jeremy (Griffin), and LeRoy (Diggs) are also going up there next year. I just have so many of my people over there. I like being around them. I also like the prestige they have. I just like it over there."
"My uncle played at Alabama, Bince Bobo. He was not a starter, but he told me about the atmosphere. I am going to take a visit and see how it is. I plan on going to one of their (football) camps this summer."
What will Quin look for while he tours the various campuses?
"I am looking for a good
education, first of all. Football will work out for me, but I need something to
fall back on."
Sanford claims a 2.8 GPA / 17 ACT and plans to participate at the Army All-American combine in San Antonio next week.
