"My commitment to Ole Miss has never changed. I have never wavered since the day I committed," added the always respectful Robert Elliott. "I told the Ole Miss coaches over the (Christmas) break that I do not know where that stuff is coming from. I have never told anyone anything differently. I have never told anyone on the street that (I am wavering), and the only staff that I have ever told that I was coming to is Ole Miss'. Honestly, I just try to not pay attention to that stuff. The Ole Miss coaches know what is up, and that is all I am concerned about."
The relationship that Robert has with the Rebel staff played a big role in his commitment to the Rebels.
"All of the coaches that are recruiting me (OM, MSU, FSU, AL, USM, Memphis) are great people. I like all of them. Everybody is so nice to me and has treated me with a great deal of respect. But there is just something there with the Ole Miss coaches that I can not explain. We just have that bond. I feel comfortable around them and I feel comfortable around their campus. That is why I committed to Ole Miss, that comfort level."
Robert is also impressed with the recruiting class that they are putting together.
"They are putting together a great class. I am excited about it. I am definitely keeping up with what they are doing."
Elliott had a special holidays for more reasons than one.
"I got my ACT score right when we got out for the
break. It was like an early Christmas present. I went from a 15 to a 17. I also
made all A's and B's on my report card, so you know momma was really happy (laugh).
It was my Christmas present to her."
Elliott comes from a strong Christian background and a very good family.
"I give all my credit to my mother and coaches for bringing me up right. My mom is a strong lady, very strong. I would never want to tangle up with her. She is the backbone to this household."
Elliott has taken his official visit to Ole Miss (12/3) and is scheduled to visit MSU (1/26) and FSU (1/19) this month. It is no surprise he heard from all three staffs during the holidays.
"Coach Freeze (OM), Grimes (MSU), and Lilly (FSU) all called and wished me a Merry Christmas."
Elliott had a chance to watch the FSU bowl game. What were his thoughts?
"They played a good game. I was just watching it just to watch it. I was not watching it for any specific reason. I watched all of the bowl games."
Elliott joined Jeramie Griffin (Ole Miss commit) and Stevan Ridley (LSU commit) as 1st Team All-State selections by the Clarion Ledger after rushing for 1, 730 and 16 TD's.
Now his focus has turned to track, where he will compete in the 110 hurdles and 200 meter events.
"I placed 2nd in the 110 hurdles last year and 3rd in the 300 hurdles my junior and sophomore years, so I want to bring home the trophy before I leave here."
