Rebels set to bring in DT this weekend

Lawon Scott (DT, St. Petersburg, FL) - The 2006 Pinellas Defensive MVP has seen his stock increase in recent weeks.

"I am going to Ole Miss this weekend for an official visit," stated the 6' 1", 303 pound Lawon Scott.

Anymore visits on tap?

"I am on my way back from Citadel, and I am going to Wake Forest on the 26th of January."

When did Ole Miss get involved with Scott's recruitment?

"My coach told me that Coach Lubick had been with Coach Rodriguez from Largo High school. Coach Rodriquez was Dexter McCluster's high school coach. Dexter goes to Ole Miss now. Anyway, they were having dinner together, and Coach Lubick asked him he knew where some good DT's were, because they were looking for some defensive linemen. Coach Rodriguez called my coach to let him know that Ole Miss was in the markey. My coach sent them some film on Friday before the Christmas break, and they offered me on Monday."

When did Wake Forest get involved?

"They found out about me some how and Coach Lambert from Wake Forest came down to our school before the break and we watched some film together. He told me he liked what he saw and he was going to get back in touch with me. When he flew back, they called my coach and said they liked my film enough to offer. Then they called me to tell me about the news."

How did Scott's Citadel visit go?

"It went really well. My mom liked it. Their education really stood out to me. They have a good education system there. Their grads make a lot of money coming out of there."

What is Scott's academic status?

"I have a 3.1 Core GPA / 880 SAT."

Lawon was named 1st Team All-Pinellas County, Lineman of the Year, and was named as a Team Captain as a junior after he racked up 68 tackles and 3 sacks. He also started every game at left guard for St. Petersburg.

This season, he did even better.

"It was a better year this year because we had some new coaches. I had 71 tackles and 6 sacks. I was named Defensive MVP for the Pinellas All-Star game, and I got invited to the North/South All-star game for the State of Florida, but when they called to let me know, I had an exam on that day. It was too late to reschedule it, so I had to miss the game."

Scott was again named 1st Team All-Pinellas County, 1st Team All-Area, and All-Sun Coast for his play on the field.
