Lady Rebs beat UK in OT; UM now 4-0 in SEC

LEXINGTON, Ky. – Junior guard-forward Carla Bartee scored six points and senior guard Ashley Awkward knocked down four free throws to will Ole Miss to a 67-65 win at Kentucky on Sunday afternoon in Memorial Coliseum. With the win, the Rebels improve to 15-4, 4-0 on the season, while Kentucky falls to 13-5, 2-1.

"This was a tremendous road win for our team," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "This game was a hard-fought battle that could have gone either way. I think our will to win was just outstanding. I could see it in my players' eyes down the stretch."

The Rebels trailed by four points early in the extra period after Wildcat post players Sarah Elliott and Jenn'e Jackson each scored in the paint. Ole Miss finally got on the board with a free throw by junior forward Danetra Forrest and then Bartee went to work. The 6-1 Waynesboro native scored six-straight points for the Rebels giving Ole Miss a three-point lead with 50 seconds remaining in overtime.

The Ole Miss defense then held UK without a basket on two attempts on their next possession, before Awkward went to the line connecting on two foul shots. With a five point lead in hand, Ole Miss left UK forward Lydia Watkins wide open at the top of the key and the freshman knocked down a three point basket to cut the lead to two.

Awkward took the ball and was fouled again, making both free throw attempts to push the lead back to four at 66-62 with 20 seconds left in the game. UK's Carly Ormerod missed a lay-up on the next possession but the Wildcats got the ball out of bounds and Ormerod connected on another three-point basket on the in bounds pass.

With 7.6 seconds remaining on the clock, Ole Miss freshman Shantell Black was fouled and made one-of-two shots from the charity stripe to give Ole Miss a two-point lead. A desperation three by Samantha Mahoney was too strong, giving Ole Miss their fourth-straight SEC win and sixth-straight win overall.

Price finished the game with her sixth double-double of the season and the 48th of her career with 15 points and 11 rebounds. She also tallied six assists and three steals. Awkward and freshman guard Alliesha Easley each recorded 12 points, while Bartee finished with 10. Sophomore center Shawn Goff had eight points and 10 boards.
