Florida DT is sticking with Ole Miss

Lawon Scott (DT, St. Petersburg, FL) - The 2006 Pinellas Defensive MVP came back from his Wake Forest official visit last Sunday and stated that he was still committed to Ole Miss, but he "was going to make a final decision between Ole Miss and Wake Forest on Thursday.

Did Lawon Scott made a final decision?

"After talking with him last night, and this morning, he said he was going to be a Rebel," added Brenda Williams, Lawon Scott's mother.

Why did Scott decide that Ole Miss was the better fit?

"He was actually considering Wake Forest pretty good, but he said he was going to stick with his first instinct and keep his commitment to Ole Miss. It was a close call, but we talked about it as a family, and he said he wanted to be a Rebel. We called Ole Miss last night and Wake Forest this morning to let them know. He never gave a commitment to Wake Forest at all. They were just basically still trying recruit him. But yesterday, Wake Forest told us that he had to make a decision right then, and they put a lot of pressure on him. I felt like that was not fair. They had told him from day one that he had until signing day to make up his mind, and then they wanted him to commit on the spot. I felt like what if there was a problem if my son was still confused on what he wanted to do. He was committed to Ole Miss already, and they put a pressure move on him, and that was not what we wanted from a staff that Lawon was going to play for. When they did that, we just decided that he was going to stick with Ole Miss like he had from the beginning. That just closed the case for us."

Lawon was named 1st Team All-Pinellas County, Lineman of the Year and was named as a Team Captain as a junior after he racked up 68 tackles and 3 sacks. He also started every game at left guard for St. Petersburg.

Scott claims a 3.1 Core GPA / 880 SAT.
