'It was better than I was expecting'

Tony Fein (LB, Scottsdale CC, AZ) - The 2006 Gridwire 1st Team All-American selection went on his official visit to the University of Mississippi this weekend. How did it go?

"It was better than what I was expecting," added an excited Tony Fein. "A lot better actually. The facilities and stadium were nice, but the thing that impressed me the most is how involved the fans and students were. We went out Friday and everybody already knew who I was. That impressed me. You can tell the fans and students are really involved. That was really nice."

Tony had heard a lot about the beauty of the Ole Miss campus before he came on the trip and everything he had heard was true.

"I loved it. It was small and quaint. I loved the old Southern architect of the buildings. I was really impressed with Ole Miss' campus. It was even nicer than I pictured it."

Fein was hosted by Brandon Jenkins.

"He was great. We got a long real well. We had a great time. He showed me where the students hang out and showed me the ropes. I really like how close knit it is in Oxford and how everybody gets along."

What new did Fein learn about Ole Miss that maybe he did not know from before his trip?

"I knew football was big, but I did not know how important it was. I was expecting it to be exciting, but I did not know it was going to be like that. Just the students and fans were better than I was expecting."

Did Tony fit in with the coaching staff?

"I liked all of the coaches. I loved Coach Orgeron. He is real personable and excited all of the time. He matches my personality, so I could really see myself playing for someone like Coach O. And I also liked their defensive coordinator, coach Thompson. He has a lot of energy too and loves to blitz and attack the QB. My position coach, Corrao, he was a really nice guy too. Overall, I could not ask for a better group of coaches."

Tony had a heart to heart with Coach Orgeron before he left.

"He explained what he expects out of me and that the team really needed me. He told me to ask him any questions about the concerns that I might have, so I voiced my concerns and he cleared that up."

What were Fein's concerns?

"They were not really concerns. He just cleared up about the other players he has recruited at my position. They were not concerns, just details."

Where does Ole Miss now stand?

"Better than before the visit. I know that. I enjoyed the visit. It is going to be a tough decision for me."

Now that Tony has visited his two finalist, Michigan State and OM, what were the differences?

"The only difference is that I visited MSU during game week. I got to see the environment on game day at MSU, and I saw OM in its everyday life, but I liked it just as much."

Time frame for a decision?

"I will announce the day before signing day."

What will be the main factors Tony decisions?

"My overall impression of how I felt on my visit. The facilities were nice at both places, so that really is not a factor. I want to go home, take a few days to get away from things and let the emotional aspect past by. Then I will just sit down and see what feels best for me. The thing I am not going to do is make an emotional decision. This is an important move for the next step in my life, and I am not going to rush my decision."
