Connections can be advantages in recruiting but linebacker Marquis McBeath has so many that it would be difficult to predict if any will sway his decision. His uncle, Melvin Dott, played his football at Mississippi State in the early 80's. Former teammates James McCoy and Demarius Bilbo play at Ole Miss and Georgia Tech respectively. McBeath hasn't received much interest from Georgia Tech at this point in the process so the Yellow Jackets are not currently a factor but which programs are?
"I like Louisiana State, Florida, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, and Auburn," said McBeath. "Louisiana State, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, Southern Miss, West Virginia, Memphis, and Vanderbilt have already offered me."
McBeath, a 6-foot, 217-pounder from Moss Point, Mississippi, made 129 tackles and three sacks as a junior. His production mirrors his style of play.
"I like to hit and play sideline to sideline," said McBeath.
McBeath maintains a 3.0 GPA and has already scored a 23 on the ACT. Moss Point opens their season on the road at South Panola High School in Batesville.
