UM women win at Arkansas in 2 OTs

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- Carla Bartee scored eight of her 10 points in the second overtime, including a critical 3-point shot to give Ole Miss a lead late, to give the Rebels a 90-87 win over Arkansas on Sunday.

With the win, the Rebels improve to 18-6 on the season and 7-2 in Southeastern Conference play, while Arkansas falls to 18-7 overall and 3-6 in SEC action.

"This was a great win," said Ole Miss head coach Carol Ross. "We shot the ball really well in the first half and then Arkansas just made a great run down the stretch. You have to give them credit, they clawed their way back into the game. I am very proud of the way we fought for this win. We hit some big shots down the stretch and found a way to win."

Armintie Price scored 30 points and grabbed 13 rebounds to lead the Rebels on the afternoon, while Ashley Awkward tied her career-high with 23 points and Alliesha Easley added 19 points for Ole Miss.

The Rebels built a 14-point halftime lead behind 20 first half tallies by Price. The lead grew to 18 with Easley doing most of the damage in the opening minutes of the second period. Ole Miss saw their lead disappear after going nearly 11 minutes without a basket before Awkward's three-point shot to tie the game at the 48 second mark of regulation. Awkward's shot tied the game at 64 and both teams missed opportunities for the win, sending the game into extra periods.

The two teams traded baskets throughout the first overtime period with Awkward again having a three to close the first extra session, but it bounced off the rim forcing a second overtime.

The Lady Razorbacks took an early lead in the second period, but Bartee's two three-point baskets and a pair of free throws sparked Ole Miss. Price collected a steal and a lay-up for a four point lead and Awkward hit three-of-four free throws in the closing moments to seal the win for the Rebels.

Ole Miss improved to 2-2 in overtime games on the season and now has played in eight overtime periods.

Price recorded her 11th double-double of the season and 54th of her career with her 30 points and 13 boards. She also had six steals and five assists, all game highs. Awkward tallied four assists, while Easley had seven boards and two steals.

Lauren Ervin led Arkansas with 22 points and 12 rebounds. Leslie Howard had 13 points, Tanisha Smith and Sarah Pfeifer each tallied 12 and Donica Cosby had 11 for the Lady Razorbacks.

The Rebels will return to action on Thursday when Ole Miss will host Kentucky at Tad Smith Coliseum. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. Ole Miss and Kentucky met once earlier this season with the Rebels claiming a 67-65 win in overtime in Lexington.
