Barksdale talks about visit to OM Jr Day

Darrius Barksdale (S, South Panola, MS) - Mississippi's lone member on Scout.com's National 100 rising senior list was in town for Ole Miss' Jr Day on Saturday.

"It was good, but my aunt had something come up, so me and my cousin (Bud Barksdale) had to leave. He was my ride, and I needed to help her at the crib," added Darius Barksdale.

The 6' 1", 190 pound safety prospect did get a chance to observe a couple of things.

"The coaches were fired up, as they always are. I have always liked that about them. But I really did not stay long enough to tour the campus, watch film, and the other things they did. All of my teammates said it was a lot of fun though."

Due to Barksdale's trip being cut short, he plans to come back again during Spring practice.

"I told Coach Orgeron I would be back for a practice next week or sometime soon. It will give us a chance to just sit down and talk about things."

Darius has been tight lipped about his recruitment from day one and nothing has changed.

"I have not spoken to any schools on the phone, nor have I received any text messages or scholarship offers. I am just wide open right now."

Any colleges writing?

"Yes, but they all write about the same. I get letters from Michigan, Auburn, LSU, Washington, Oregon, Ole Miss, Florida, FSU, Georgia, and Georgia Tech."

Which colleges stick out so far?

"They are all about the same, really. I am not even thinking about recruiting right now. Really, nobody even has my phone number. I learned a lot from Chris Strong and those guys. I just want to concentrate on my senior year, and I will get to all of that later. I like a lot of schools, Alabama, Auburn, Florida, FSU, Georgia, Georgia Tech, LSU, and there are some more too."

What does Darius think about his new head coach at South Panola?

"Coach Pogue, I like how he talks. He is a good coach. He said he will do what ever it takes to keep the streak going. But I really have not just had a chance to just sit down and talk to him in-depth about everything."

South Panola will carry a 60 game winning streak which includes 4 straight Class 5A State Championships into next season.

Barksdale was named 1st team All-State as a junior by the Clarion Ledger after collecting 35 tackles and 4 interceptions at safety and 1,042 rushing yards and 9 TDs.
