Charles Mitchell takes in Ole Miss' Jr Day

Charles Mitchell (DB, Clarksdale, MS) - One of Mississippi's top players had a chance to attend Ole Miss' Jr Day on Saturday.To read how the visit went, read inside.

"It was good because I learned a lot of stuff about academic eligibility, their practice fields, and I got a a good chance to talk to their coaches one on one," added Charles Mitchell. "Their coaches seem really excited about the season coming up and the one after that. They seemed really focused. It was a good day."

Was this Charles' first visit to Ole Miss?

"No, I have pretty much grown up going to their games."

What did Mitchell learn on this trip that maybe he did not know from before?

"I got a chance to look at their whole practice facility, and I got a chance to meet all of their coaches and learn about what I need to become a full qualifier."

What did Charles and the Ole Miss coaches talk about?

"They were just glad to see me. They told me that they looked forward to coaching me. They were real excited. They had a lot of energy."

What did Charles enjoy the most during his trip?

"The energy that the coaches have. The concern for the players they have and their practice facilities. Ole Miss just seems like a good place to be."

Did anyone accompany the 6' 0, 190 pound defensive back?

"My mother and a few of my teammates came with me."

What did Charles' mother say about Ole Miss?

"She enjoyed it, but she did not say too much about it."

Mitchell had a chance to talk to the Ole Miss coaches on Monday and received some good news.

"I called them, and Coach Orgeron told me that I had a scholarship and that the papers are in the mail."

Will Mitchell be attending anymore Jr Days this Spring?

"I do not know. I have to check on my plans. I wanted to go to Alabama's Jr Day, but they had theirs on the same day as Ole Miss'. Ole Miss' was closer."

What has caught Charles' interest in the Tide?

"I do not really know too much about them, but I want to learn about them and their new head coach. But they always compete. That is what I like about Alabama."

Anybody else standing out?

"LSU and Auburn but mainly LSU."

What are LSU's positives?

"They always compete and they play aggressive. They have good coaches too."

And Auburn?

"I need to learn a little more about them. They are always at the top, and they have great coaches too. That is about it."

When it comes decision time; what will be the main factors?

"I want to get a good education, first of all. And then I want to be in a good family environment, and I want to be comfortable with my surroundings around the community."

Charles helped lead the Wildcats to the Class 4A championship game after gaining over 1,100 rushing yards and 12 TD's on offense and 108 tackles and 3 int's on defense. Charles was named to the Class 4A 1st Team All-State squad and the 2nd Team All-State team for all classifications by the Clarion Ledger.

What did Mitchell think about his season?

"I had my best year, offensively. Defensively, I did not get a chance to play much CB, but I had an interception in the championship game. I played mostly Dog Safety. It was an OK year."

What is Charles being recruited to play?

"Ole Miss and MSU have offered me to play CB. LSU and Auburn are recruiting me to play CB too. Colorado and Alabama are just telling me DB"

What makes Mitchell a good DB prospect?

"I have good footwork. I am good at press coverage. I have good speed and agility, and I play good man coverage."

Charles claims a 92 GPA and takes the ACT test for the first time in April.
