Rebels add sophomore running back commit

Payten Jason (RB, New Orleans, LA) - Jesuit sophomore running back Payten Jason has committed to Ole Miss.

The 6' 0", 190 pound tailback rushed for 728 yards and 9 touchdowns on 114 carries last season.

He is being recruited by Ole Miss RB coach Frank Wilson, who was the New Orleans Public Schools athletic director before joining the Rebel's staff..

Payten attended Junior Day last month and liked what he saw.

“I really liked what I saw from Ole Miss,” added Payten Jason. “I have known Coach Wilson from middle school. I just liked the environment and coaches really.”

Coach Orgeron also made his mark on Jason during Jr Day.

"He came up to me told me that he wanted me to be a Rebel if that is what I wanted to do, and he said I was there first scholarship offer for my class. That was pretty cool to be their first offer. I told my parents when I got back home that they had everything I wanted and that I wanted to be their first commit since they showed me so much love."

Jesuit's '06 head coach who recently resigned, Sid Edwards, had this to say about Payten to the Nola.

"Payten is mature beyond his years and has a tremendous work ethic," Edwards said. "He's been blessed with natural speed, good vision of the field and has good hands and blocks well."

Peyton marks Ole Miss' 1st '09 commitment.
