Recruiting: CB Trumaine McBride

In recent years, Clarksdale High School has sent players like Brandon Downing, Mario Haggan, Kenny Kern, Robert Spivey, and Darren Williams to Mississippi State. This year, offensive lineman Marcus Cohen has given his commitment to Ole Miss and there is one other battle to be fought between the Bulldogs and Rebels in Clarksdale, Mississippi. Trumaine McBride, a 5-foot-10, 175-pound cornerback, is listing both schools among his current favorites.

"I like Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Southern Miss, and Stanford right now," said McBride. "All of them have offered. West Virginia, Memphis, and Tennessee have also offered."

The next question is whether or not decisions made by McBride's former teammates or current teammate will have any bearing on his decision. McBride says his will be an independent one.

"I will make my own decision," said McBride. "I will go wherever it is best for me."

McBride plays on both sides of the football on the prep level. He is a highly productive running back on offense and an equally productive defensive back on defense. Most prospects prefer to make their college choice based on keeping the football in their hands despite being more highly projected on the defensive side of the ball. McBride has the maturity to see beyond his high school career.

"I prefer to play cornerback in college," said McBride. "I think it will be my best position on the college level."

McBride will not rush his decision. In fact, he has his focus on the task at hand.

"We won the state championship last year and I want to win it again," said McBride. "I'm focused on our season right now. I will look harder at recruiting after our season is over."
