OM hoop's program expected to sign two today

The Spring signing period starts today and runs through May. To read about who is expected to sign today and in the future for the men's basketball and baseball programs, read below.

Basketball expected signees for Wednesday

Trevor Gaskins

Trevor Gaskins competed in the Atlanta All-star shoot-out with Rebel signee, Zach Graham, on Saturday. He also competed in the GA All-Star Slam Dunk and won the 3 point shoot-out.

As a sophomore, Trevor played at at St. Francis. Gaskins was played with 3 D1 players and averaged 15 points and 9 assist a game. Last year he transferred to Milton (GA). They needed him to be more of a scorer. Trevor averaged 24 points and 5 assists a game.

This season, Trevor played for Chattahoochee High and averaged 15.8 points and 5.7 assists a game. Gaskins picked the Rebels over FSU and Tennessee. All three schools offered.

Trevor has played point guard his whole career but is thought of as a combo guard due to his ability to shoot the ball and handle the rock.

Wesley Jones

Wesley Jones was the second leading scorer in the Mississippi juco ranks as he poured in 24 points and 10 rebounds a game this year.

The 6' 8", 200 pounder is known to play "above the rim" and will give the Rebels another "Kenny Williams" type athlete but with a little more versatility on the offensive end. Wesley participated in the MS Juco All-Star Classic.

Look for Jones to be an immediate impact player for Ole Miss at the 3 and 4 positions.

Will Ole Miss sign anybody else in the Spring Signing Period?

We believe there is a high probability that the Rebels will sign at least two more prospects in the late signing period, which begins tomorrow and goes through May.

Look for Tirrell Baines to be one of the signees.

Tirrell Baines

Tirrell Baines took an official visit to Ole Miss in early March and is also considering Baylor and Illinois. All three have offered.

Baines helped led his team to the National Prep School Championship game this season.

Terrence Watson

The second signee could come from Mott CC prospect, Terrence Watson.

The 6' 5", 215 combo forward helped lead Mott CC to the national juco championship this season.

Watson averaged 13 points, 9 rebounds, and 5 assits per game.

Mott CC is a very well balanced and coached team but Terrence is their best rebounder, passer and is a highly skilled athlete.

Watson will take an official visit to Ole Miss this Thursday through Saturday.

We will have more on Watson in the near future.

Basketball analysis

We believe Ole Miss will sign four players in the Spring signing period and Tirrell Baines, Wesley Jones, and Trevor Gaskins will be three of them.

Do not look for Tirrell to sign until at least next week.

The last slot will hopefully start and stop with Terrence Watson, but other names like Jackson Lanier's combo guard R. L. Horton, SF Steppfon Pettigrew (6' 5", 210) out of Elizabeth (KY), SG Matt Walls (6' 3", 175) out of Georgetown (KY) and juco prospects SG Emanuel Holloway (6' 2", 180) out of Iowa Western CC and SG Kelvin Davis (6' 4", 210) out of College of Southern Idaho.

You could also see a potential impact transfer between now and the fall.

Baseball Analysis

Recruiting for the '07 class has been quiet on the baseball front due to the large number of players that were signed in the early signing period (12), and the simple fact that they are not in need of many more pieces of the puzzle.

They are looking for another pitcher and LHP Matt Tracy out of St. Louis (MO).

Matt pitched against the defending state champs last week and had 13 K's while giving up 2 hits. He throws it in the 88-89 MPH range and stands at 6' 4", 180.

Trusty had an unusual growth spurt over the summer as he grew three inches in the month of June. This caused a growth plate in his back which made him miss the period of the year where you are seen by the college recruiters, summer and fall ball.

Trusty came to Ole Miss' camp the summer before and was throwing in the 83-84 MPH range. The Rebels want to further evaluate Matt this Spring before making a final decision.

Iowa, Michigan State, and Wichita State are also in the mix.

Another player that could end up at Ole Miss next fall is RHP Jeb Gaultney.

Jeb is a 6' 4", 190 pound pitcher out of Episcopal High in Houston, TX.

He throws 88-90 MPH and has already been accepted into Ole Miss, academically.

Infield prospect, Yogi Gunther, marks Ole Miss' only Spring commitment, and he will not sign with the Rebels until next week due to Spring Break.

There will be no other signees in the Spring signing period.
