It is a small wonder that Kemp made Scout.com's prestigious National 100 Team.
As a junior, the talented youngster had 42 receptions for 780 yards and 8 touchdowns. He was named All-Metro and State for the second consecutive year for his on the field accomplishments.
Wes now holds scholarship offers from Missouri, Kansas, Kansas State, Wisconsin, Ole Miss, Illinois, Minnesota, and Nebraska. Who was the first to offer?
"Missouri offered me last year," added Wes Kemp.
Any unofficial visits taken this Spring?
went to Iowa's Jr Day a while back and Wisconsin a while back. Those are the ones
I have been to, so far."
Kemp talks about his Iowa experience.
"I had a real good time. I spoke with Eric Johnson. They have a great program and a lot of St. Louis kids up there. I would not be alone if I went there. They have nice facilities, and it would be a nice fit. I could get some early playing time if I went there. I am just building relationships with their coaches right now."
Why has Iowa not offered?
"I am suppose to send them some game tape next week, and if they like it, I hope all goes well."
As well as the Iowa trip went, the Wisconsin visit even went better.
"I really enjoyed talking with their coaches and players. They had a great season this year. They usually run the ball, but they are opening it up now. They finished #7 in the country last year. I spoke with their head coach.. They offered me while I was on my visit. That was my highlight of the trip. With that visit, they took over my favorite program right now."
Who else has caught Wes' eye?
"I say everybody I am open too, but the only school that has the slight advantage is Wisconsin because of my visit, but everybody else who has offered me is on a level playing field."
Anybody made a move recently?
"I think Ole Miss and Illinois are gaining some ground. They both text me every week and keep in constant contact. They are showing me a lot of interest."
What stands out about Ole Miss?
"I talk to Coach Freeze about once a week. They have a great program and great new QB in the Texas transfer (Jevan Snead). I look at their depth chart, and I know I can get some early playing time if I choose them. All I hear is good things about the school and the city it is in. I know playing in the SEC, you play against the top players in the country. I also know they got another good player from around here in Rashad Fields. They are trying to recruit this area a lot harder now."
Any trips on the horizon?
"I am going to take a trip up to Minnesota, Ole Miss, Nebraska, and Illinois hopefully by mid summer. I am trying to get to all of the school this Spring so I can make a decision by the end of the summer."
it comes decision time; what will be the main factors?
"Number one will be academics. I want to graduate in 3 1/2 years and get a good business degree. Secondly, I want to see how I would fit into the program with their coaches and players. And thirdly, I want to see how long it will take me to make an impact with their program."
