'Ole Miss is my leader'
The 2006 All-District, State (4A), and Metro performer graded out at 92% for the season.
"It was an exciting season for us," stated Dallas Thomas about Istrouma's 10 - 1 season. "Practice was hard, but it paid off in the end. Personally, I think I did a real good job at pass blocking and pulling and run blocking. I still want to get my forty time down (ran a 5.4 forty at Nike Combine). Hopefully I can get it down in the 5.2's at the Scout.com combine in New Orleans on Saturday."
The 6' 6", 280 pound offensive tackle has now been offered by Ole Miss, Baylor, Tulane, La Tech, and Houston, but a few more schools are involved.
"Michigan, LSU, Florida, Tennessee, Auburn, and Alabama are all heavily recruiting me. I think Florida is close to offering me. I like their playbook. They run a spread offense."
Dallas took in the Ole Miss Spring game this past Saturday and came away impressed.
"They are my leader now. They are recruiting me the hardest. They send me hand written letters from all of the coaches over there. I get a lot of text messages from them, and we talk on the phone a lot. As to my visit, it was nice. The town is quiet, and the game was exciting. I got to meet a lot of their players, and I spoke to their whole staff. I also got a chance to visit a lot of their facilities."
What impressed Thomas the most about Ole Miss?
"Their football team. Just the way their players talk good about the school and how they enjoyed themselves."
Did anybody accompany Dallas on his trip to Ole Miss?
"My brother, mother, aunt, and grandmother all came with me. This was the first time we had been there. They loved it up there. Their facilities and the way they treat their players and how they have their academics set up for their athletes. They also liked their coaches. They want me to come up there. They asked me if I would be interested in coming and how much they would love to have me up there. I told them I am very interested, but I am still waiting on my other offers. Ole Miss is definitely my leader though."
Dallas also had a chance to take in Tulane's Jr Day.
"It was nice. It was rainy though. They have nice facilities, and I got a chance to talk to Bob Toledo He asked me if I would be interested in coming to Tulane, and I told him I would, but not right now."
Did anyone accompany Thomas on his trip?
"My mother and aunt came with me. They said they enjoyed themselves. They liked Tulane."
What stood out the most about Tulane?
"Their playbook is balanced."
Dallas also had a chance to take in LSU's Jr Day.
"It was nice, but it was so long ago, I forgot what all we did. I know we went to a basketball game of theirs, and then we went and looked at the stadium. I spoke to their coaches. They were talking about their academic program, and we toured their facilities. Being from around here, I have pretty much seen it all."
Which colleges are now in Dallas' Top 5?
"Ole Miss, Baylor, La Tech, Tulane, and Houston."
