Lady Reb golf in West Point for SEC tourney

The Ole Miss women's golf team heads to West Point this weekend for the 2007 SEC Championship at Old Waverly. The first round is scheduled to begin on Friday.

This year's tournament will host nine teams in the Golfweek Top 50, including four in the top 10. Currently, Georgia is ranked No. 3, Auburn is ranked No. 5, Vanderbilt is at No. 7 and Florida sits at No. 10.

"We are playing with a lot of confidence right now," said head coach Meghan Bolger. "The team is excited. We are ready to get out there on this beautiful course in this beautiful weather and give the fans something to cheer for. This place is very special, especially to me. Hopefully, we can do a great job of representing the great state of Mississippi."

The Rebels enter the tournament led by sophomore Dori Carter. The Valdosta, Ga., native has set new career highs this season in both tournament low score and overall individual finish.

Carter started off the season by carding her best 54-hole tournament score of 74-72-72—218 at the Jeannine McHaney Intercollegiate. She recorded a career-best 2nd-place showing at the FSU/Chrysler Challenge in Destin, Fla., this spring. Carter then repeated the feat at the UC-Irvine Anteater Invitational in Irvine, Calif. She enters the tournament leading the Rebels in stroke average with a 76.10.

Freshman Sara Grantham has combined with Dori Carter to be the top finishers for the Lady Rebels this season. The Cleveland, Tenn., native has been the top finisher in three of the team's nine tournaments, while Carter has been the top finisher in the other six.

Adding depth to the Ole Miss squad will be senior Katie Davidson. The Bonaire, Ga., native joins Carter and Grantham as the only other member to have competed in every tournament for the team this season.

The team's lone Mississippi native, junior Katherine Jones, will also be competing in the SEC Championship. Jones made Ole Miss history, recording the first ever hole-in-one by a Rebel golfer, at the Jeannine McHaney Intercollegiate in the fall.

Rounding out the team's five-player roster will be sophomore J.J. Flynn of Mt. Zion, Ill.
