Rebs in lead for nation's top juco RB

LaGarrette Blount (RB, East MS CC) - The '06 Auburn signee is not rated by Scout.com as one of the Top 50 national junior college prospects in the country for no reason.

"My speed gives me the ability to run away from defenders, and my size allows me to go through them," added the very soft spoken LaGarrette Blount.

Production has never been a problem for LaGarrette, as he led the State of Florida in total yards as a senior and was second in rushing yards.

"The thing about it, we did not even play but 9 game because of Hurricane Katrina. I could have done a lot better. But the thing I was proud about the most was being named 1st team All-State as a running and as a returner. I like to think of myself as being pretty versitale."

The 6' 1 1/2", 235 pound back rushed for 1, 259 yards and had over 300 receiving yards as a freshman for East Central CC.

"It was a good season, a learning experience. I think I got a lot better last year."

After earning 1st Team All-State and being named to the All-American team by NJCAA, LaGarrette wants more.

"I want to be noted as the best running back in the country. I have always wanted to be the best at everything I did."

How did Blount end up at East MC CC?

"My ACT score was not high enough to get into a D1 school. I signed with Auburn out of high school. They told me to come here for a year and half and come back if that is what I wanted to do. I am going to get out in December."

Where does Auburn now stand?

"They are still talking to me and sending me letters and stuff. Coach Ensminger stays on me pretty good. But the team that has been on me really/really hard is Ole Miss. In fact, Coach Orgeron came to my school today. I also talked to Memphis, Kansas State, MTSU, Alabama, and a lot more came to our practice today. There were like 9 or 10 colleges here today. I interviewed with them about how I would fit into their program."

Any offers?

Ole Miss actually offered me before I went off to Spring break. I talked to a lot of coaches today, and they said they were going to offer me in a week. They told me they were going to call me to see what I am going to do, so I will wait and see what they are going to do."

Which coaches told Blount they were going to offer?

"The coaches from Kansas State, MTSU, Memphis, and Alabama."

Does LaGarrette have a leader?

"I have to say Ole Miss is at the top, but everybody else is dead even. I talked to the Iowa State coach last night and they wanted to offer me too."

What does Blount like about Ole Miss?

"I like their coaches. They have been recruiting me the hardest since I have been here. Coaches Orgeron and Hughes and I talk all of the time. I just like how they are recruiting me. I was suppose to go over there this weekend but I had a car wreck. We get out of school next Tuesday, and my mother is going to bring me over there the following week."

Who else is on LaGarrette's radar?

"Alabama, Iowa State, Kansas State, and Auburn."

When it comes decision time, what will be the main factors?

"Education first, but I am really looking for a football program where I can come in and play early."
