That is exactly what they are getting from Michael Hubbard, as he is currently batting .370 with 18 HR's, 14 doubles, 6 triples, and 71 RBI's.
"I have always been able to hit mistake pitches," added Michael Hubbard.
This season is no fluke as the 5 '11", 190 pounder batted .385 with 7 HR's and 57 RBI's as a freshman. But where did the power come from?
"I have always hit for power. I tied the home run record at Bentonville my senior season. Last year, we used composite wooden bats during all of the conference games. I had never hit with a wooden bat before, so it was an adjustment. This year, we have been using aluminum bats all season. I guess that is why my power numbers are better."
Michael was drafted by the Florida Marlins last summer, but he has decided to be an Ole Miss Rebel.
"I just committed to Ole Miss on my visit this past weekend. I signed on Saturday. They are a great team, and I really love their campus. They also have a great staff. I also knew they were looking for someone to bring some more power to their lineup, and they could use another outfielder. It was just the best situation for me."
Was this Hubbard's first visit to Oxford?
"Yes it was. I met all of their players and coaches. Their coaches were real thorough about it. I really loved that Oxford (MS) is a nice town. You would never expect an SEC town to be that small, but it is really nice."
Michael felt a lot of home state pressure to sign with the Hogs, but it simply was not in the cards.
"Yeah, everybody was excited about me going to Arkansas. They kept asking me when I was going to sign. Yeah, there was a lot of pressure, but I just thought Ole Miss was the better fit for me."
Who else was in the picture?
"It came down to Ole Miss, Arkansas, Oklahoma State,
Michael is Ole Miss' 17th overall and 3rd juco outfielder to sign this year.
