**As you all know, Ole Miss undersigned by one in the February class and they expect their normal "3 to 5" academic casualties when it is all said and done.
Taking that number in hand, that leaves them anywhere from 4 to 6 slots to open, if needed.
They will probably save the majority of those slots for the early signing period (which will be "free") but expect them to ink a couple more players this summer.
**The staff attended the State Track Meet this Past Saturday and Ronnie Tubbs simply blew everybody away.
Tubbs exploded for a 24-foot, 5-inch performance to win the 4A boys long jump, a 4A state meet record and good for No. 2 nationally this year according to dyestat.com.
**Willard Ross was very high on the pecking order as he stayed on our "Hot List" until the very/very end until it was thought that he was going to be a non-qualifier.
But Ross has since made
his ACT score and looks to have his GPA in order. Do not be surprised if Ross
is a Rebel before it is all said and done.
A side note on Ross; Willard is really showing out at the Mississippi/Alabama All-Star combines and will be playing cornerback with Ole Miss signee, Jamison Hughes.
**Another thing that you can look at with the sudden interest in Ross and Tubbs is the simple fact that they fell short on their CB goals this year with only one signee in Jamariey Atterberry and the fact that WR Roderick Davis is still a serious question mark, academic wise, and WR A.J. Jackson is one too.
They need to add another WR and CB to this class, especially if Davis or Jackson or both do not make it in.
**OL John Paul Alford was offered by MSU tonight. The Rebels are going to try and talk Alford into coming to their camp before they make a final decision to offer or not, but you always run the risk of the kid going ahead and making a commitment.
shall see how this plays out.
**We hear that Ole Miss has made up some ground with All-Everything receiver, DeAndre Brown, as of late. We do not expect any earth shattering comments from DeAndre stating Ole Miss is now his leader, but do know that the Rebels will be one to be reckon with for Brown's services when it is all said and done.
**Rumors were swirling around that Ole Miss received a commitment from possibly the top juco running back in the country, LaGarrette Blount, this past week. Although the rumors ended up being false, we hear that the Rebels are inching closer towards that commitment and have to be considered the odds on favorite to land the young man.
**Evaluation period has begun, and the Rebels have been out on the road for the past week and will continue to evaluate until the last week of May.
Three Peachtreee Ridge (GA) prospects have caught Ole Miss' eye and we were offered on Friday, according to CB Brandon Sanders, RB Brandon Davis, and CB Derrick Bryant. For those that are not familiar with PeachTree; they won the 2006 Class 5A State Championship and were quarterbacked by Ole Miss basketball signee, Zach Graham.
Several more Georgia prospects informed us this weekend that they were also recently offered in DT Cordian Hagans from Northview and LB Ebele Okakpu from
**A guy to keep an eye on for the '10 class will be RB Anton Taylor who prepped at Provine and will attend Hinds CC the next two seasons.
As you remember, we had Anton in Mississippi's Top 25 all year despite his lack of pub from the recruiting circles.
This past Saturday, he won the 5A boys 100 meters in a blazing 10.42 seconds, a 5A state meet record, and the second fastest time in the event's history.
Everyone is wondering who will close out the '06/'07 class?
We keep hearing good things about the chances of SF Terrence Watson signing with Ole Miss and a good possibility that they will receive a transfer from UCLA's Ryan Wright. If these two sign, this will round out the class.
**Terrence took his official visit to Oxford a few weeks back and the word around his commitment is being kept to a hush due to his coach's wishes. Our sources indicated to me as late as Saturday that things still look on the up and up for Watson to sign.
**Ryan Wright is from Ontario(Canada) and is listed as a 6' 8" center/power forward. Obviously, Ole Miss will be losing their three big men next season, so they are trying to fill in the gaps.
Malcolm White, out of Genesis One Prep, is one of the top rising seniors in the country, and he is a 6' 9" center/small forward candidate that is already committed to the Rebels. If Ryan transfers to Ole Miss, that will be two of the three "big men slots" that will be in place to replace Dwayne Curtis, Jeremy Parnell, and Kenny Williams.
Things are rounding out quite nicely for Coach Andy Kennedy's program.
