Defensive linemen aren't supposed to be "nervous" about much of anything, but 2007 DL signee Justin Sanders admits to a little bit of that on the eve of his reporting to Ole Miss to begin his college career.
"I'm a little nervous about being away from home," Sanders, a 6-5, 290-pounder, said. "I don't leave home very often."
But he understands that's a natural feeling and he'll get over it soon enough.
"I'm sure all freshmen going off to school have some kind of hesitation about leaving home, but I'll be OK. I'll probably be homesick for a little while, but I'll probably be so busy getting ready for the season that I'll get used to everything soon enough," he added.
Justin is expected to arrive on the Ole Miss campus this Sunday, May 27, to begin his career.
"I'm looking forward to the football part. I want to step in and play as quickly as possible," he continued. "My academics are fine - I got word that I am cleared - and I just want to get going.
"I've been working out on my own. I've been running some, but mostly I've been lifting weights trying to get my technique in the different lifts right. I've made some progress."
Sanders said he will work hard this summer on his speed and in being in shape when August practice rolls around.
"When I take the field, people are going to see my want-to. I play hard. I need work on my speed to impact the next level, but I think I can get that done," he closed.
When Sanders signed with Ole Miss, he was in the 275-pound range. He's worked hard to get up to 290 and wants to play "around 285."
He will be at Ole Miss all summer.
