How excited is Ole Miss grid signee Colby Arceneaux about starting his Rebel football career?
If this is any indication, he graduates from John Curtis HS in New Orleans Friday night and Saturday morning he's headed to Oxford to report and begin summer school and football workouts.
"Saturday can't get here soon enough as far as I am concerned," said Arceneaux, who is expected to play strong safety at Ole Miss. "I cannot wait. I have been working real hard to get myself prepared. I will not be behind or out of shape when I get there."
Colby, who hit .400 with 6 home runs this spring for John Curtis, took a few days off after baseball season and then started hitting the workout trail hard.
"I've been working out with Colt Colleti, who is from New Orleans and is a fitness fanatic," Arceneaux stated. "I'm putting in the time and effort to be in peak shape when I get there."
Colby said his number one goal for his freshman year is to get on the field in a game.
"I know I have work to do and have to prove myself, but that's my goal," he declared. "I'm coming to Ole Miss to compete as hard as I possibly can and to win a job, no matter what that job is."
What does he feel he brings to Ole Miss football and the strong safety position?
"My number one thing is hitting, but I also pride myself in knowing what an offense is trying to do before the ball is snapped," he added. "You have to be aware of everything going on around you and you have to be proactive with your approach to the upcoming play."
But Colby is also a realist. He understands what he's getting into with the leap to major college football.
"I will be competing against the best players in the country. I know I have to improve everything I do. I will work hard on every phase of the game, my body and my mind," he ended.
And he will start competing as soon as. . . heck, he's already started.
