Rebels offer second prospect from Alcoa High

Randall Cobb (Ath, Alcoa, TN) - Alcoa sent Rae Sykes to the University of Tennessee and Kyrus Lanxster to the University of Kentucky last season.

It is a good bet that you will see two more players off of their squad heading to high D1 programs again this upcoming season.

Wide receiver, Brian Sommer, already has offers from several BCS conferences and their star QB just received his first.

"Ole Miss offered me last week," commented Randall Cobb.

The 5' 11", 175 pounder has started at QB for the past two seasons but is being recruited more as an athlete.

"They like me at either DB or WR, but a few of them are still looking at me at QB."

Randall passed for 1, 875 yards and threw 25 TD's with only 4 int's last season. Not bad for an "athlete" playing QB.

"I just have that desire to win. I want to be the player to help us win. I want to do what ever it takes to make my team better."

It is that type of team attitude that has several colleges keeping a close eye on the young man.

"I would say Vandy, Kentucky, Wake Forest, Ole Miss, and Louisville are recruiting me the hardest."

Cobb has had the chance to develop a tight relationship with a few of the coaches who are recruiting him.

"Coach Sanders from Kentucky. He knew my parents when he was at UT (Tennessee). Coach Freeze at Ole Miss. We are pretty close. And Coach Bryant from Vandy is a really good guy."

What stands out with Vandy?

"I love their educational system. You can get one of the top education in the country if you go there. And they are getting better and better each year."

And Ole Miss?

"They are getting better and better too. They have one of the top QB's coming in from Texas (Jevan Snead). He is a transfer from Texas."

What are Kentucky's positives?

"They are getting better and better. They are trying to get to 9 wins, if not, go to a BCS bowl. My best friend, Kyrus Lanxster, goes to school there. I would love to play with him again."

And Wake Forest?

"Like Vandy, I love their education. I met their DB coach the other day. He is pretty cool. Hopefully I will get to know him better. I am going to their football camp this summer."

Anymore camps on the horizon?

"I will probably go to MTSU, Kentucky, Vandy, Wake Forest, and I think me and Brian Sommer are going to Alabama together."

Cobb carries a 3.1 GPA / 19 ACT.
