Rebs still in the mix with Alonzo Lawrence

Alonzo Lawrence (DB, George County, MS) - One of the more versatile players in South Mississippi had 11 total TD's on offense/special teams and 60 tackles with 4 interceptions on defense.

But that versatility did not show at the combine that was held in New Orleans, according to Alonzo.

"I did not think I did too good at that combine," added Alonzo Lawrence. "I had a bad day. The 40 time (4.43) was alright, but my 1 on 1's was really bad. I was suppose to do a lot better than I did. I think I pretty much embarrassed myself out there."

That humble attitude might come as a surprise because Alonzo put up some impressive numbers in the 40 (4.43), shuttle (4.16), and vertical (37").

"Numbers are just numbers. It is all about being productive, and I was just thinking too much. There were a lot of great receivers there, but that really did not have anything to do with it. I was just thinking too much out there."

Alonzo was offered a scholarship by MSU and Ole Miss earlier on in the recruiting process. Anybody else getting close?

"Not really. Those two schools are still the main ones. I get a lot of stuff in the mail from FSU. Florida and LSU still send me some stuff too. But Ole Miss and MSU are the only ones who call and text me."

Who would Lawrence like to see increase their attention?

"LSU or FSU. I want them to start recruiting me harder."

What stands out about MSU?

"I just like their head coach, the staff in general. I like the school too, and it is in my state."

Lawrence told us earlier this year that he would like to play against his older brother, Co-Eric Riley, who signed with MSU in February, on the next level. Does he still feel the same way?

"I would like to play with him for his last year. I would also like to go against him, but, it would be nice to play with him for one year too."

What are Ole Miss' positives?

"I just like the way their team is set up. I like the way they play football at Ole Miss."

Any camps on tap for this summer?

"I am going to USM's 7 on 7 camp coming up. I am going to try and go to the LSU camp. I do not have a date for their camp, but I want to go to one of them. I think I will make it to the MSU camp next Sunday. I should make it."

Alonzo is unsure of his GPA and will retake the ACT test in June.
