Passing Camp a hit at Ole Miss

Over 800 prospects and 27 teams were in attendance for Coach Orgeron's 3rd passing camp. The passing camp is a chance for each team to better itself by allowing the skilled players to play in a 7 on 7 tournament while the linemen work on their techniques with some of the finest instructors in the land.

Today we spotted the following schools:

South Panola (MS), Olive Branch (MS), DeSoto Central (MS), North Pontotoc (MS), Lamar (MS), Jackson Provine (MS), North Panola (MS), Kosciusko (MS), Oxford (MS), Noxubee County (MS), Winona (MS), Baldwyn (MS), Raleigh (MS), Itawamba (MS), MUS (TN), Briarcrest (TN), Whitehaven (TN), Hamilton (TN), Jackson Christian School (TN), Harding Aca (TN), St. Augustine (LA), Edna Karr (LA), O. Perry Walker (LA), Tuscaloosa County (AL), Berry (AL), Spring County, and Georgetown.

Today had a Mississippi flavor as many of the top rising senior prospects from the Magnolia State were in hand like DB Darius Barksdale, DB Bud Barksdale, DBWilliam Moore, Dominique Davenport, Qth Kendrick Presley, DB William Moore, OL Quinn Sanford, DL Templeton Hardy, OL Jermarcus Hardrick, OL John Paul Alford, WR Horatio Williams (commit), OL/DL Cameron Wagner, OL Johnathan Wilson, WR/DBMartez Austin, (DL) Terrance Pope, and DB/RB Lynn Williams.

William Moore

A couple of the named players from Mississippi who's stock rose after the camp were DB/WR William Moore and DB Bud Barksdale.

William came in with a severe ankle sprain but toughed it out in the 98 degree heat and made several outstanding plays to lead Provine to the semifinals of the 7 on 7 tournament.

Bud Barksdale
South Panola was without its signal caller, David Renfroe, so the offense was sputtering at the Passing camp, but Bud Barksdale continues to show that many schools are missing on this young man. He is the complete package.

We also saw a few unknown prospects really shine at the passing camp. The Raleigh (MS) trio of FS Chris Lofton, CB Jamie Bender, and QB/Jr Paul Black definitly fitted this catagory. In fact, we hear that Chris Lofton (6' 2", 190) shined so bright than an offer could be coming to him from the Rebels in the immediate future.

A couple more rising seniors from Mississippi who made names for themselves in QB Brett Jeffcoat out of Itawamba and Noxubee County's DE Javaris Conner.

A few unknown underclassmen from Mississippi that stood out were the Olive Branch trio of QB/Jr Ryan Denton (transfer from Ridgeway (TN), OT/So Damien Robinson, and CB/Jr Perry Moore. Jackson Provine's QB, Niko Whitney, is a rising junior that transferred to Provine from Murrah.

Chris Lofton
(could be hearing from the Rebs in the near future)

We also learned from the Olive Branch staff that one time Ole Miss commit, QB Cannon Smith, has indeed decided to attend Hargrave this fall. In fact, Olive Branch will be holding a 7 on 7 tournament in Olive Branch from July 16 - 18 with the help from the Hargrave staff.

In the prior camps that took place at Ole Miss this past week, we saw many more of the state's top prospects in attendance in LB Josh Chesting, DT Willie Packer, dB Charles Mitchell, DT Curtis Powe (unofficial one day visit), DT Josh Jackson, DL Trevor Stiggers, and FB/LB Tim Jackson.

The list of out state prospects that are key recruits who attended today's camp were LB DeAndre Jones, LB Tenarius Wright, CB Rico King, Hamilton TE Donald Law, WR Marcus Hightower, Edna Karr's DL Stewart Joseph.

Anthony Johnson

A couple of big time underclassmen from the City of New Orleans that we spotted were O Perry Walker's DL/So Anthony Johnson and a defensive tackle from Edna Karr that we have yet to receive his name.

There were many more big time prospects who were in attendance. We will hit all of them over the next few weeks in our extensive camp coverage.
