Georgia linemen turns heads at OM Camp

Justin Smith (DE, Alpharetta, GA) - Chattahoochee's star defensive end has had a chance to take in a few football camps over the past two weeks.

"Justin's dad played for LSU so he has been taking him to some camps this past week," added Chattahoochee's head coach, Terry Crowder. "Justin went to Texas and LSU this past week, and he went to Ole Miss and MSU the week before. I know he is going to Michigan State this weekend."

Has Smith commented to Coach Crowder about his camp experiences?

Justin Smith

"The only thing he has told me is that Mack Brown for Texas asked him to come up to his office. When he got up there, he told him that it is not within the NCAA rules to offer a player during a camp, but to make sure and keep the phone ready."

Which colleges have now offered his star defensive end a scholarship?

"Ole Miss, Boston College, Marshall, and Arkansas have offered him."

And the main colleges that are recruiting Justin that have not offered?

"I guess the two that have shown the most interest are Louisville and I guess LSU."

What kind of player is Smith, in coach Crowder's eyes?

"His pass rushing skills are just unbelievable. He has such a long reach. Justin is just physically gifted. It is just what they are looking for in a defensive rush end. Every coach has told me that he more than passes the eye test. He just looks like he is already in the NFL."

What type of season did Smith have last year for Coach Crowder?

"He led out team in sacks last year. I believe he had 13 for the season. He just absolutely dominated our Region. I was at Camden County when we set the 5A state record for fewest points given up in a year. We sent 3 players on our line to the ACC and one played for Florida's national championship team last year. Justin would have started on that line. He is the best defensive linemen I have never been around."

Smith's character is also a positive.

"The thing I like about Justin is that he works even harder now than he did before he became highly recruited. A lot of players in Justin's position get the big head and stop working as hard, but Justin is more down to earth than ever and his grades have gone just straight up. He is real hungry."
