Rebs still lead for nation's top juco RB

LaGarrette Blount (RB, East MS CC) - The '06 Auburn signee rushed for 1, 259 and 10 TD's in only eight games of action as a freshman for East MS CC this past season. Some are already touting Blount as the nation's top juco running back for the upcoming class.

What is the 6' 1 1/2", 230 pound bruiser doing this summer?

"Well, I did really well in school this Spring, so I am taking the first summer session off. I came home after school was let out (on May 3rd). I have been running and lifting at my hold high school. Everybody just welcomed me back home. It has been great being back with the guys," stated LaGarrette Blount.

Which colleges are showing the most interest?

"Louisville, Alabama, and I have been talking to Florida quite a bit. But mostly Ole Miss. They are showing me the most interest."

Any new offers?

"I got one from West Virginia a couple of weeks ago."

What interest level does Blount now have in West Virginia?

"About medium. About the same as the rest of them except for Ole Miss. They are pretty high on my list right now.

Why does Ole Miss stand out over the rest?

"I just like how hard they are coming after me. They also told me I was not coming in to sit on the bench, that I'll play right away. That is basically what is pulling me that way."

The Rebel staff has also developed a close bond with LaGarrette.

"I usually talk to Coaches Hughes and Orgeron. Those are some good guys, real good guys. Coach Hughes is just a generous, sincere person. Just an all around good guy with a great attitude and personality. You are not going to meet many people like Coach Hughes. And Coach Orgeron, that man is busy, but he always finds time to talk to me. I think me and him have a real strong bond, strong relationship. He is an easy going, laid back man. Coach O is a committed coach. He is very committed to his job."

But the Gators could have an inside connection with Blount.

"Coach Parker, he was the coach at my high school the year after I left. He is now an assistant with Florida. We are talking a lot. When I use to go home my freshman year at East MS CC, he would always welcome me over there and told me that I was still a part of their family. Then when he left to Florida, he told me that they really needed an impact RB. He told me to send some film, and he they would go over it and talk with me."

Has Blount sent in the film?

"No, not yet, but my coach is getting something together for them."

How active has Louisville been lately?

"Not very active, really. I do not really talk to them much, just a few times, maybe once every two weeks or so. Their coach just told me that they really/really wanted me to come in there and make an impact for them next season. I asked him if he honestly thought I would be the man over #33 and #42. They told me I would play."

LaGarrette plans to take in a couple of unofficial visits before he starts back school in July.

"I plan on going over to Ole Miss and Alabama the weekend before I report back to school. I just want to look around."

How serious are the Tide with Blount?

"We have been talking a lot lately. They just want to get me down there and talk it over. Coach Saban wants to meet me in person."

Does the juco All-American have a time frame on when he would like to have a decision made?

"I would like to make it before I start the season. If I do not have it done by then, I will just wait until after my season is over. I am all about business when we kick it off."
