Darius took in an unofficial visit
to Ole Miss today with his cousin, Bud Barksdale, who also committed to the Rebels.
"We always wanted to play together on the next level," added Darius who also goes by "Tig". "We have a lot of our boys over there already, you know, Peria Jerry, John Jerry, Chris Strong, Jamarca Sanford, just all of the boys. We want to win some championships together. We already won a bunch of here (South Panola), so we want to win some more with our home town boys. Ole Miss has been good to us. They really look out for you at Ole Miss. They stay on top of your academics where you can do something with your life after football. I just think everyone has our best interest at heart at Ole Miss."
The coaching staff at Ole Miss
sealed the deal for Darius' commitment.
"They are like family to me. They have been there for me through the good and bad times. They are a lot of fun to hang around, but they are serious when it is time to get serious."
Barksdale has been hesitant to talk about his scholarship status in the past but he was able to shine a little light on where that stands.
"I have written offers from Ole Miss, MSU, and USM. The rest of them have told me or my coach over the phone that I have offers, but I do not have anything at my house on paper that says I do."
Darius has one message to the Ole Miss fans.
"I am glad to be a Rebel, and I do not plan on leaving there without a few rings on my hand."
For now, the Barksdales are shooting for their fifth consecutive 5A state championship ring at the "University of South Panola."
Barksdale was named 1st team All-State as a junior by the Clarion Ledger after collecting 35 tackles and 4 interceptions at safety and 1,042 rushing yards and 9 TD's.
Darius reports a 2.38 GPA / 20 ACT.
