Reb's hoops picks up '08 commitment

Brandon Wilson, a 6-5 G/F from Monroe, LA, committed to Ole Miss tonight while participating in the Rebs' Elite Camp.

Brandon played at Rayville HS last season as a junior and averaged 19 points and 8 rebounds a game. He will attend Carroll High School his senior season in Monroe.

"Ole Miss wanted me the most and I liked their coaching staff the most," said Wilson, who was also pursued by Auburn and ULM. "I know the style of basketball Coach (Andy) Kennedy wants to play, which is upbeat, and that's what I want to play. My strength is my athletic ability and ability to get up and down the court.

"I committed to Ole Miss last year, but I had not been on campus and wanted to see the campus before I recommitted. Ole Miss is doing big things in basketball and I want to be part of it. I've met some of the players and the coaching staff and know the program is headed up."

Brandon, who was measured with a 7' 0" wing span last year, is rangy, a good ballhandler and passer, and can drive to the basket at will. His ouside shot needs work, he said, but it's because he was played at the post last season at Rayville. This year, he will be teamed with Terrence Henry, a 6-9 center who Ole Miss is also recruiting and who is also at the Elite Camp and that will allow Wilson to play more on the perimeter.

"I believe my future is on the wing," Wilson continued. "I will work on my outside shot this year and get that down and get used to playing facing the basket."

Wilson will be playing his senior season for former Rebel Chris Oney, who is the Carroll coach now.
