Ready for some football

DeMarcus Tidwell (WR, Grenada, MS) - The 6' 1", 185 pound receiver out of Grenada was one of the more highly thought of junior prospects in Mississippi after he hauled in almost a 1,000 receiving yards. But there was that lingering question, baseball or football?

"I think that rumor that I was not going to play football anymore really turned some people off," added a very upfront DeMarcus Tidwell. "A lot of recruiters questioned my desire to play football."

Well, how much desire does Tidwell have for the game of football?

"I have decided that I want to play both sports in college. I could have given up on football and just concentrated on baseball, but I missed the game of football this summer. It feels great to be out here again with the guys. It really does."

How are practices going?

"It is going all right. I am just trying to focus on catching the ball and focus it in all the way until it is in my hands. We are probably not going to be as good as we were last year. We lost a lot of defenders. We are pretty green on defense. It is mainly the defensive line that is so young. If they can hold their own, we should be ok."

Most colleges backed off of DeMarcus when it was rumored that he was going to quit football but a few have kept in touch.

"Ole Miss, Tennessee, and La Tech are still in contact."

What are the Rebels saying?

"They are talking about their season, and they really want me to come in for the Florida game. They want me to come check out their campus."

And Tennessee?

"They are saying the same things. They want me to come check out one of their big games. They like my size."

Tidwell batted .623 with 6 HR's, 23 doubles, and 5 triples as a junior; is he receiving any baseball interest?

"Louisville, Alabama, and Meridian CC are really the only ones right now. Hopefully where ever I sign, they will let me play both sports because that is what I want to do. I want to play both sports and then go pro."

In which sport?

"I do not know yet. I guess which ever one gives me a shot (laugh)."
