It was a Wednesday practice. There was a lot of third down work and a lot of corrections from yesterday. You can sense a home game coming, and sense the excitement in the air. We'll continue to work through the week. The 5 p.m. game will give us some extra time to work, especially on Missouri's offense. That is the type of preparation we need.
How has the team handled the corrections from Saturday and this week?
First to make corrections, you have to identify the problem. I think it was good. We identified it and fixed some things. Everyday, you go out and work and there are corrections that need to be made. You come in and fix them for the next day. Then, you finally wittle them down to your gameplan.
How is the running game specifically?
There is improvement, but there is still a ways to go. We are going to get there, and I have complete confidence in the group.
How are you on the injury front?
How important is the running game against an explosive offense?
The best thing is to keep the ball away form those guys. Running time off the clock is important, but throughout the season, we are planning on being 50 percent run and 50 percent pass. I have confidence in our defense, and I am ready to play this team.
Have you talked to the team about the crowd?
I talked to them about what to expect and what is going on. I talked to the freshmen last week about what the game is about. And also talked about what it means to be in Vaught-Hemingway Stadium.
How are kickoffs looking?
We are working on it very hard. It looks a little better, but it isn't where we want it to be yet. We saw so many different types of kicks last weekend. We may see them again and may not. We were prepared for them last week, but we didn't do it everyday. Now, we are. You don't know what to expect.
How is Antonio Turner doing?
He is coming along and getting in the rotation. He is a backup, but he plays a lot of special teams and gets a lot of reps.
What about Tony Fein?
He has been ok. Starting to learn his stuff.
What about Ted Laurent?
He has had a good week. He had an excellent day yesterday against the run. I think he is getting in better condition and better understanding the defense. You can see the improvement. I think he is ready to get some snaps.
What about Rishaw?
He is a good talent, but I don't know if he is ready to play. He is on the second team right now.
