Rebels bringing in California juco DE

Devin Johnson (DE, Citrus CC, CA) - California's most wanted juco defensive end will make his first official visit this weekend to the University of Mississippi.

"I am looking forward to finally getting to see what Ole Miss has to offer," stated Devin Johnson.

What will Johnson key in on while he is on his visit?

"I am going to look at their coaches and how close they are with their players. I want to know how good the team is, and of course, academic stuff, like if they have a good Architect program. I want to minor in Computer Graphics.

Which colleges are the most serious with Devin?

"Ole Miss, Arizona State, Kansas State, and Southern Cal."

Any offers?

"All four of those schools have offered me. Oregon, Nebraska, and Utah have offered me too."

How did Devin and Ole Miss' relationship start?

"Coach Neilsen came to see me play when I was in high school, and then he came back out here to see us practice last Spring. We have been talking ever since. Coach Orgeron calls me a lot too."

What is Johnson's opinion on the Ole Miss coaches?

"They seem like cool coaches. They call me every week after my game. I think that is cool. They show a lot of interest in me. That is it."

Who else would Devin like to visit?

"I would like to see Oregon, Utah, and I would like to go to Arizona State. I would like to visit Arizona too, but they have not talked to me yet. That is the school I really wanted to go to after high school."

What about Southern Cal?

"I would love to visit USC. I like their team and players because I have two friends who play on their team. I like their work ethic. I just like everything about their program."

Does Southern Cal lead for Devin's services?

"No, not at all. I do not favor anyone right now."

What stands out about Arizona State?

"I jut like their school and program. I took an official visit there when I was in high school. It seems like a nice place to play ball."

And Kansas State?

"I would like to visit KSU because of their coaches. They seem pretty cool. I do not know too much more about KSU other than their coaches."

What are Utah's positives?

"I have two good friends who play for Utah. They tell me nothing but good things about Utah, and I want to find out for myself."

Which colleges never miss a week in their calls to Devin?

"Ole Miss and Kansas State."

Johnson has had to make some adjustments this season at Citrus, as he moved from his natural position (DE) to linebacker. He still has produced 38 tackles, 2 sacks, 1 interception and 1 fumble recovery with both of those going for touchdowns.

"It has been a learning experience playing outside linebacker. I have never played anything but end all of my life. But is fun. I have no problem with it."

The 6' 3", 230 pounder has the speed (4.56) and size to play either position.

"Most of the colleges are still recruiting me for end. Southern Cal said they do not know yet. They just want me to sign and come figure it out. It is all good. I will play where ever they want me."

Devin is scheduled to graduate in May and will have 3 1/2 to play 3 on the next level.
