"We've got a lot of veteran guys," said the senior outfielder of the Blue squad. "They just came out today and knew what to do."
What they did early was get to starting White LHP Drew Pomeranz and didn't let up. The Blues batted around against the true freshman left-hander in top of the first and led 6-0 before the White team ever came up to bat.
"We really swung the bats well, and our pitchers did well," said Smith, who contributed to his team's cause going 2-for-4 with a double, a home run, and a RBI. "Most of these guys (on the blue team) had been here and done that, so it was just a matter of us going out and getting it done."
The Blues sent redshirt sophomore RHP Phillip Irwin to the mound. The Whites got three runs in the bottom of the inning, but the Blues pitching combo of Irwin, true freshman RHP David Goforth, and redshirt sophomore RHP Justin Cryer gave up just one more run on the day.
The top of the second was identical to the top of the first for the Blues as they batted around again. This time they only got four runs to lead 10-3 after an inning and a half.
The Blues got four more before the Whites added one in the bottom of the seventh off closer Justin Cryer for the final score. The teams played seven complete innings. They meet again Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
