Rebels reel in Top 100 baseball prospect

Kyle Barbeck (LHP, Blue Springs, MO) - The 6' 0", 210 pound Baseball America Top 100 member took official visits to Wichita State, Missouri, and Arizona State before ending his visit tour with Ole Miss in September.

It looks like that last visit sealed the deal.

"I committed to Ole Miss," added Kyle Barback . "When I went down there the very first time on my official visit, I just fell in love with it. What caught my attention was the atmosphere of the football game (Missouri/Ole Miss football game), the atmosphere of the Grove, the atmosphere of the Square, just all of it. I also felt like I fit in with their players the best. We just clicked."

The campus of Ole Miss' was also a factor.

"It was by far the nicest campus I visited. It is also really nice for freshmen because it is all in one area and very convenient. I just loved it down there."

Who came in second place?

"I say it was a tie between Arizona State because of their program and Missouri because it was close to home."

What are Barbeck's goals for his freshman season at Ole Miss?

"Hopefully I am just able to get to pitch. I am the only left handed pitcher they are signing in our class so that was important to me. I know they are losing a lot of arms this year, so hopefully I can get a weekend job. I just want to be able to pitch in the SEC. I would like to start, but I will do what ever they want me to do."

As a junior at Blue Springs High School, Kyle was 8-0 with a 1.41 ERA for the state champion Wildcats and followed that with a 9-0 record and 0.85 ERA for the State Champion Blue Springs Rod's Sports A's, who went 60-11 before falling in the Mid-South Regional in Paducah, Ky.

Barbeck closed the Legion season with a four straight wins - including three in postseason action - and 31 consecutive scoreless innings.

"I've coached and seen some awfully good baseball players," A's manager Mike Rooney told the Examiner, "but I haven't seen many kids have a season like Kyle." Barbeck, who shared Examiner American Legion Player of the Year honors with teammate Andrew Melanson, also led the A's regulars with a .450 batting average.

"I think my best pitch is my fastball," added Kyle Barbeck. "I top out at 93 MPH and pitch it in the 87-89 range consistently. I also throw a 4 seam and 2 seam fastball. A fun little pitch I throw is the knuckle curve and my circle change up is pretty good."

Kyle carries a 3.5 GPA / 23 ACT
