How did the visit go?
trip made me get closer to making a commitment," added Dudley LaPorte. "It
seems like it is all about football. Everybody is behind their program. That is
good. I have a chance to go in and play right away."
What new did
LaPorte learn about Oxford and Ole Miss?
"I like the Grove. The Grove
is exciting. The fans and football players all gather at the Walk of Champions.
That was exciting. But what stood out the most to me was just the team itself.
A couple of big plays stopped them from beating the number one team in the country.
That is very big. It shows me they are real/real close."
was LaPorte's host.
"Jonathan Cornell was a cool guy. He filled me
in on everything I needed to know. Like what goes on off the field, school wise."
the 6' 4", 255 pounder fit in with the players and coaches?
I feel real comfortable with the players. They treated me like I was already one
of them. It will be an easy transition."
LaPorte had a chance to take
in a practice on Friday.
"The offense they are running next year is
the spread. They are keeping their tight end at flex. That is going to give me
an opportunity to catch some balls and stretch the field. The two TE's that are
playing this year are graduating, so they need for me to come in right away and
The game day atmosphere at Ole Miss was something that Dudley
had never experienced.
"Wow, I can not describe it. You have to be
there to experience it. Their fans are cheering and know your name whether you
are on the bench or on the field. Their students were yelling all of the players
names that were coming in off of the bench. They even knew our names in the recruiting
section. Everybody is just so into football over there. They love their football
at Ole Miss."
LaPorte had a good talk with the Ole Miss head coach
before leaving Sunday.
"We just went over my role and how I can help
his offense next year. Obviously with any tight end, your first goal is to be
a great blocker. That is not going to change, but with them going to the spread
offense, that is going to give me more freedom to stretch the defenses and make
some big plays."
It is no surprise that the Rebels are the leader
for Dudley's services.
"Right now, I am their #1 tight end on their
board, and I have them #1 on my list. Hopefully, we can do big things. I didn't
commit on my trip because they wanted me to go home and talk it over with my family,
but they are going to be hard to beat."
A couple new schools have
"Rutgers and Texas A&M started calling last week.
They want me to come in for a visit."
