Texas Juco DE becoming a hot commodity

Emmanuel Stephens (DE, Blinn College, TX) - The Houston native arrived in the fall of '05 and made an immediate impact for Blinn's program.

"He had 36 tackles, 12 for losses, 3 forced fumbles, and 2 recovered fumbles as a freshman for us," stated Blinn's head coach, Brad Franchoine who is the son of former Aggie head coach, Dennis Franchoine. "I tell you, he came in here and was in a league on his own. The kid is just a player."

There are a few more qualities that Coach Franchoine wanted to add about the former Waltrip standout.

"Emmanuel gives great effort every practice, every play. He is a very mature young man that treats people the way they should be treated. He is a ferocious football player on the field. He plays fast and intense. We will miss him for sure. He is as good of a pass rusher I have coached. Sometimes I wonder if he is in his own little world."

Stephens had to sit out the '06 campaign because of some confusion on a class that he needed to take that was not completed.

"I think that really made him realize that although he is very mature and bright, he needed to become better organized. The light, so to speak, went on after that incident."

This past season Emmanuel had 36 tackles, 8 1/2 sacks, 5 forced fumbles, 4 recovered fumbles, 1 interception for a TD and he also scored 2 TD's.

Stephens was named All- S' West Conference for his play on the field.

Where is his recruitment headed?

"I talked to him today," stated Head Coach, Brad Franchoine. "It sounds like Oklahoma State, Texas Tech, California, Texas A&M, and it looks like Ole Miss now that Coach Nutt is over there. He has a good relationship with Coach (Chris) Vaughn. His relationship with Nutt and Vaughn has put them in the hunt. He is married and has a baby. She will have a lot of influence on where he goes. Chris is just a great kid that is well grounded. You want your daughter to find a man like him. I guess that is the best way I can put it."

Where all has Stephens visited and where does he go next?

"He said he still has two trips left, and he is going to give it an honest look and made a decision. He goes to California this weekend and Texas A&M next weekend. Chris has already been to TTech and Oklahoma State. I am sure he will try to fit in Ole Miss sometime before December 19th when signing day comes around."
