Recently, Southern Mississippi added two former Ole Miss assistants in Frank Wilson and Tony Hughes to their staff. Coach Hughes was responsible for the recruitment of the South Panola players for the Rebels.
The Eagles were able to plant some doubts in the Ole Miss commit's mind, but some of the questions raised were answered last night when the Rebels made contact with Quinn and the rest of the South Panola commits.
"Coach Vaughn was talking good, but I have not had a chance to talk to all of the other coaches yet," added Quinn Sanford. "Me, Tig (Darius Barksdale), and Bud (Barksdale) called Coach Vaughn from my crib and the rest of the staff had just left. It was around 11:00 pm when we called."
"The reason we were all going to USM was because Coach Hughes said he would get us into school and they thought Ole Miss wouldn't get us eligible. I sat down with my counselor last week and she told me that I was probably going to have to go to juco, but USM was going to make sure we were not going to have to go to a junior college. I wanted to go to Ole Miss, but I did not want to have to go to a junior college for two years to get there if somebody else could get me in a D1 program next year."
Where does Quinn now stand?
"Coach Vaughn told us to not worry about them not helping us get into school. He said if USM could get them into school, they could too. I now know that Ole Miss is going to look after us just like USM would. I am still going to Ole Miss."
The Ole Miss coaches were busy on the phones last night, and they wanted Quinn to talk to a few of them, just in case he still had any doubts.
"Coach Vaughn told us to call Alonzo Lawrence, Derrick Herman, and Marlon Walls and see what they had to say about the conversation they had with them last night. Alonzo told me that Ole Miss knocked it out of the park. Derrick and Marlon said they knocked out of the park with them too. Alonzo said he was going if Tig went. Marlon and Derrick said they were going to Ole Miss no matter what. I also talked to DeAndre (Brown) and he said he was coming to Ole Miss if me, Tig, and Bud were going. We are still all going, so it is going to be all good. Everybody is still going to stay together."
Quinn's commitment has not stopped other schools from trying to change his mind.
"We are going over to Alabama this weekend to chill with Jeramie Griffin. Me, Tig, Bud, and Terrance are going over there on Friday and coming back on Sunday. MSU called me last week and asked me if I wanted to come on a visit. I told them I would think about it. I still do not know if I am going to go or not. We have not made up our minds for sure. I know we are going to Alabama this weekend, Ole Miss next, and USM the weekend after that. Those are the only dates in concrete, but I am still a Rebel."
