Houston Nutt's first recruiting class needed a boost along the offensive front.
Part of that was achieved today when Decatur, GA, Offensive Lineman Aaron Hawkins, who officially visited Ole Miss last week, committed to the Rebs.
"I am very excited," said Hawkins, a 6-4, 305-pounder. "I just seemed to fit there with the family atmosphere and the coaches. I really hit it off with Coach (Tracy) Rocker, who recruited me; Coach (Mike) Markuson, who will be coaching me; and Coach (Nutt).
"They are good people, the kind of people you want to spend an important part of your life around."
While Hawkins' decision was based on the "people" aspect of Ole Miss, the campus and facilities were also important.
"Everything there is up to date in regard to facilities and class opportunities," Hawkins, who will play on the interior of the OL (OG or C), said. "The FedEx Center is awesome, the class sizes are what I hoped for and the campus overall is beautiful."
Hawkins, who had a visit lined up to Vanderbilt this weekend but has canceled, had offers from Troy State, Miami of Ohio, Vanderbilt and UAB, among others.
"To make the jump to the next level, I will need to work on my strength. I think what I do best is using my feet to get in position to lock up on defensive linemen and use my tenacity," he closed.
The Rebel commitment list is still short an OT or two, but the interior of the OL is shaping up nicely with the addition of Hawkins.
