Practice Impressions

Lance Lynn hadn't pitched against live hitting since July, but the junior right-hander struck out four in two innings including the side in his final frame. He is completely back and ready to assume the Friday night role. Lynn battled a broken toe and a groin injury in the offseason.

Cody Satterwhite threw every fastball more than 90 mph but struggled some with his command. He said after that it was just first-day struggles and that all felt fine. He is scheduled for a bullpen Wednesday, so he is the definitive leader to throw every Saturday during the season.

David Kindred was 3-3 during his first live action in quite some time. The redshirt freshman has battled an injured wrist for more than a year but put together three solid at-bats, producing two extra-base hits.

All remaining pitchers will throw tomorrow at noon except for Kevin Parker, Brett Bukvich and Matt Tracy. Tracy and Parker are both experiencing back stiffness, while Bukvich isn't ready after offseason shoulder surgery. The junior is throwing bullpens but several setbacks have caused his recovery to be pushed back. Mike Bianco said that there was currently no timetable for his return.

It is only the first day, but Brett Basham seemed to have the upper hand behind the plate. Neither he nor Henson did much offensively, but Basham's defense was superior as he picked off a runner and had another nailed, but Sean Stuyverson dropped the throw. Stuyverson's error was the only slip by either shortstop. Both the transfer and Evan Button made several solid play in the hole. Stuyverson did go deep for the White Team's first run.

History would suggest that Cullan Kight could face a suspension during the opening weekend against Minnesota. Kight was arrested early last Saturday morning for charges of public drunk and fake I.D. The charges are misdemeanors, and Kight has a court date Feb. 6. In recent years, former Rebels Mark Wright and Miles Franklin have each served suspensions due to off the field issues on opening weekend.
