Last Time Out
The Rebels stepped on Northwestern State in a two-game midweek series, winning 15-4 and 14-1. Ole Miss has scored more than 10 runs in every game since the season opener. Indiana State took the midweek off after dropping two of three games at South Florida on opening weekend. The Sycamores captured the Sunday game to prevent the Bulls from sweeping.
Ole Miss leads the overall series 5-2.
Scouting the Sycamores
Indiana State finished 2007 26-26 overall and 7-17 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Prior to this season, the Sycamores were predicted to place seventh in the MVC. Wichita State is picked to win the conference. ISU has only been able to practice outdoors a few times due to the weather. The Sycamores will run a veteran group onto Swayze Field with eight of the 10 starters in their junior or senior years. Two sophomores round out the starting lineup. Out of the players that have recorded more than five at-bats, Chris Schmidt and Pascual Del Real lead ISU with .385 and .300 averages respectively. Schmidt has also knocked in four of the team's 11 RBI. Sycamore starters have performed well versus South Florida, but the Bulls were able to put up runs late. Twelve of ISU's 14 runs allowed have come in the sixth inning or after.
