In addition to her first career national title, Reese also finished third in the high jump with a mark of 6-01.25 to be named an all-american in the event. With her long jump title, Reese becomes a two-time all-american this season.
Junior Justin Gunn also became an all-american in the long
jump as he posted a mark of 26-00.00 to record the second
longest indoor jump in school history to turn in a fifth
place finish. Gunn, who entered the weekend tied for 10th
in the nation, finished the indoor season ranked fifth in
In the preliminaries of the 400 meters, senior Kenyata
Coleman qualified for the finals as she posted an eighth
place finish with a time of 53.61. Coleman went on to turn
in an eighth place showing in the finals with a time of
54.60. Freshman LaJada Baldwin, who became the first female
true freshman to compete in an individual event at the NCAA
Championships in school history, finished the 400 meters in
14th place with a time of 53.95.
The Ole Miss 4x400 meter relay team of Sirdonea Davis,
Coleman, Britney Barnard and Baldwin finished in 11th place
in the event with a time of 3:38.04.
As a team, the Lady Rebels finished ranked 13th in the
nation with a total of 17 points, marking the most post
scored on the women's side in school history. In
addition, the women's team was the fourth highest finisher
among SEC schools.
"We had a phenomenal meet this weekend and I am really
proud of what we accomplished," head coach Joe Walker
said. "We couldn't have asked for any more out of our
team today, and they did everything humanly possible to put
us in a position to be successful."
Ole Miss returns to action March 22 when the Rebels take
part in the Rhodes Invitational from Memphis, Tenn., to open
the 2008 outdoor season.
