Rebs bring in key LB recruit

Coach Nutt came into the state of Alabama several times during his tenure at Arkansas to pluck away several players who later went on to star for the Razerbacks.

It looks like he has his eyes set on another Alabama standout in Hans Rice, as the Rebels were the first to offer the 6' 3", 190 pound linebacker.

Rice decided to travel over to Oxford on Saturday for Jr Day to see what Ole Miss was all about.

"It went really well," added Hans Rice. "It was actually a lot better than what I was expecting. The coaches made me feel welcomed. They were all over me as soon as I walked through the door. Coach Dickerson took me on a personal tour. He then took me into Coach Nutt's office. We talked one on one for about 30 minutes. I had always heard he was a player's coach, but you can not really put it into words until you meet him in person. He had me ready to go to war for him right then and there. Coach Nutt was very impressive."

The education factor was also important.

"I want to major in Sports Medicine (3.9 GPA / 20 ACT) and Ole Miss' facilities are very up to date. They have tread mills in water which is very unique. They just had a lot of facilities towards my major that are on the cutting edge. That was very impressive."

If there was one thing that stood out over all others; what would it be?

"The coaches, just the way they make you feel welcomed and the atmosphere during the scrimmage. They are so intense out there. They get after it. They are not laid back. Their coaches are still athletic. They are able to run with the players during the drills. They just do not stand around and yell out plays. They are running around with them. They are real strict on their players but they still encourage them at the same time. Their coaches have a nice balance to teaching. They really impressed me."

What did Hans observe from the linebacker group?

"Their LB coach is very demanding, but in the long run that makes you better. He does not let them get back in line when they mess up. That is the best way I can put it."

Hans Rice

Last year Rice collected 87 tackles, 8 for losses, 2 sacks, 2 recovered fumbles, and 3 interceptions. But this year he will receive more action at wide receiver.

"This will be my first year to start at receiver. I am excited about going both ways. I think my feet, quickness, ability to read the offenses, and open field tackling are my strengths. It is a guaranteed tackle when I am one on one in the open field. My coaches actually put me wide on defense by myself. If they break by me, that is it, but they have that much confidence in me. I like working in space but I have speed."

Rice received his second scholarship offer recently.

"Central Florida offered me a couple of weeks back. I am going down there next weekend to check them out. I just sent in my tape to Georgia Tech. They have not received it yet, but they said if they liked what they saw, they are going to offer me. They were the first school to start recruiting me, so I think there is a good chance I am going to get some good news from them pretty shortly. Georgia Tech has always been one of my favorite schools. I am going over there for a visit the weekend after Central Florida."

The Auburn Tigers are also heavily interested.

"Coach Willis is really trying to get me down to Auburn. I think I could be getting some good news from them too."
