Ole Miss is coming off a pair of midweek wins over Murray State and at Arkansas State after dropping the weekend series to No. 10 South Carolina on the road the previous weekend. Arkansas comes into the weekend after winning both midweek games against Northern Colorado. The Razorbacks also picked up a series win in their last weekend series as Arkansas took two games from Tennessee at Baum Stadium.The Hogs have won five of their last six games. If the SEC Tournament began today, Ole Miss would be the No. 2 seed due to winning the division. Arkansas would miss the tournament by a half game.
Ole Miss and Arkansas have faced off 54 times with the Razorbacks holding a 31-23 advantage in the all-time series. The two teams first met in the 1982 season with the Razorbacks claiming a 7-2 win in Fayetteville in a single game. Last season, the Rebels claimed the weekend series 2-1 in Fayetteville to close out the regular season. The Rebels have won four straight series dating back to the 2004 season, including a sweep of the Razorbacks in Fayetteville in the 2005 season. Rebel head coach Mike Bianco is 13-11 against the Razorbacks as a head coach and has led the Rebels to wins in 11 of the last 15 meetings between the two schools.
Arkansas is hitting .287 as a team led by Chase Leavitt at .342, one of four regulars to currently be above .300. Aaron Murphree has 13 home runs for the Razorbacks but only one in his last 19 games. Jeff Nutt has a 10-game hitting streak entering Friday. Arkansas fields .966 as a team and is 49-59 stealing bases. Opponents are 35-44 stealing. The Hog pitching staff has a 4.55 ERA while striking out 297 and walking 167. All three starting pitchers this weekend have opposing batting averages under .270. Arkansas is 20-1 when leading after seven innings and has three wins when trailing entering the ninth frame.
