Patterson high on the instate universities

We had a chance to view one of the top prospects in the South in the North Half Finals for the Mississippi track meet on Saturday.

"I try to use my long arms to my advantage when I am going up and getting the ball," added Pat Patterson. "My hands are pretty big but they are soft. That is the main thing."

Patrick was running the last leg of the relay and when he got the wand, Noxubee County was running in 8th place but finished up in 5th. Patterson looks to run kind of awkwardly with little technique, but he can still get it.

"My coach has been trying to work with me on my technique a lot. I never get caught from behind, so I really do not worry about it too much."

Patrick Patterson

Patrick's strengths on the football field are pretty simple.

"I have the ability to catch the ball in traffic and I have good body control. I also run good routes. I just make plays."

Scholarship offers have not come at the pace that you would suspect with a recruit that possesses this much upside but they have been coming in nevertheless.

"I have scholarship offers from Arkansas, Auburn, Mississippi State, USM, and Ole Miss."

Which college is closest to offering that has not?

"Michigan. Coach Hopson has been down here and called. He is talking real good right now."

Which colleges are now at the top of Patterson's list?

"I like USM, MSU, and Ole Miss the most right now."

What stands out about Southern Mississippi?

"I like the way they are suppose to throw the ball this year. They said they would throw a lot. They did in their spring game. I went down there for it. They threw it a lot."

What are MSU's positives?

"I like the way they compete."

And Ole Miss?

"I just like them as a whole."

Where all has Patrick been this Spring?

"USM's spring game and Jr Day and MSU's Jr Day."

Where will Patrick camp at this summer?

"I am going to go to USM's and Southern Cal's Sr Camps, and our team is going to Ole Miss and MSU and hopefully Alabama."

Which colleges have come by Patrick's school to scout him this Spring?

"MSU, USM, Ole Miss, Auburn, and Michigan."

Any phone calls?

"I got one from USM and MSU."

Which coaches has Patterson developed a tight bond with?

"Coaches Stringer and Croom from MSU and Coach Bradford from Southern. I like the way the MSU coaches talk. They do a lot of talking. They are easy to talk to. And Coach Bradford is a real energetic coach. He is a lot of fun to talk to."

When it does come decision time; what will be the main factors?

"I just want to go to a school that passes the ball and has a good Architect program. That's what I want to major in."

Patterson caught 72 passes for 1, 415 yards and 17 TD's.
