4 Star DB has Rebels on his mind

The 6' 0", 175 pound Lafayette (FL) standout finished the '07 campaign with 40 plus catches for 1,000 yards and 15 touchdowns and also contributed 45 tackles and 10 picks at corner where he is projected to play on the next level.

This Spring, the 4 Star CB has been working on one thing and one thing only.

"I wanted to take on a bigger leadership role," added Jamal Reid. "We lost a lot of seniors on our team last year and somebody has to take up the slack. My coach had a meeting with me before Spring practice started and he asked me to step it up in the leadership department, so that is what I have done."

Which colleges have been by Jamal's practices to scout him?

"Mississippi State, Indiana, Georgia, and Ole Miss so far."

Any phone calls this Spring?

"I have had a bunch (laugh). Georgia, Auburn, Florida, FSU, Miami, N.C. State, Clemson, Ole Miss, Indiana, Maryland, Memphis, Louisville, UCF, USF, and FIU. There have probably been some more, but those are the ones I can remember."

Jamal was sitting on 8 scholarship offers the last time we reported but that number has considerable gone up.

"I have 14 offers now. I am going to try and get this right. I have FIU, USF, UCF, Miami, Akron, Memphis, Louisville, NC State, Indiana, Maryland, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, and Clemson."

Who is closest to offering next?

"This summer, if I go over to Georgia's, Florida's, and Auburn's camps, they said there is a good chance I will get a scholarship."

Which coaches has Jamal built the tightest bond with?

"Coach Collins (UCF), Vaughn (Ole Miss), and Harp (Miami) are all good coaches. I talk to them the most, and they all seem to be nice guys. They have all made an impact with me."

What stands out about UCF?

"I like UCF. It is nice, and all of the coaches are nice. I went to their Jr Day, and it was nice. Their coaches seem to like me, and I guess I have made an impact with them. Coach Collins writes and calls me a lot. I like Coach Collins a lot."

And Ole Miss?

"Coach Chris Vaughn, let me see how I can put it, I guess the easiest way to describe him is that he is someone that I would love to play for. We just clicked the first time we talked. He is just a down to earth and a good guy. He called me a few weeks back and we have been talking ever since. They are really recruiting me hard."

What stands out with Miami?

"They were my first offer, and Coach Harp was the first person I talked to on the phone. I have a good relationship with him. He wants to bring me in at CB. I just like Coach Harp a lot."

Anymore schools stand out?

"Maryland, Clemson, Louisville, but really, I do not have any top schools. I like all of them. I am still wide open. I want to take some visits to the schools I am interested in this summer and go from there."

Where all does Jamal plan to visit this summer?

"I know I am going to Florida's 1 Day camp on June 15th, but I do not have anything set after that. I have to get up with my coach and see where all I can get a ride to. I know I want to go over to Miami and Ole Miss because I have never been to their campuses, but I have to see where I can get a ride. I want to visit every school who has offered me, to tell you the truth, but I know that will be impossible."
