4 Star WR has Rebs near the top

The 6' 4 1/2", 200 pound receiver out of Archbishop Carroll had 36 catches for 627 yards and 7 TD's on offense and 35 tackles and 3 interceptions as a junior. The Rebels have taken notice.

This Spring, the 4 Star WR has been busy concentrating on offense.

"I am playing WR and Safety, but this year I am mostly playing receiver," added Rodney Smith. "I am getting a lot better with my route running. I am getting out of my breaks better and getting down the field better."

Plenty of college scouts have been by to watch the '07 All-State performer.

"The last couple of weeks, I have been getting in a lot of offers. I am up to 25 total scholarships. The schools who have been by are Miami, FIU, Florida, FSU, USF, UCF, Michigan State, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Rutgers, Auburn, Tennessee, Boston College, LSU, Marshall, Pittsburgh, Ohio State, and Notre Dame."

When we last reported, Smith had offers from FSU, Auburn, Rutgers, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Missouri, LSU, USF, and FIU.

Who has offered recently?

"Last week I got offers from FIU, Colorado State, Tennessee, and Wake Forest."

Any recent phone calls?

"Coach Drahan from Tennessee called, Coach McDonnell from Minnesota called. Coach Fisher from FSU called. Coach Brackford from Florida called. Coach Scott from South Florida called. Coach Hill from Miami called, and Coach Vaughn from Ole Miss called."

Which coaches have made the biggest impact?

"They have all been so nice. I like them all, but I think Coach Day from Boston College has stood out. He really wants me to come play for them. Coach Drahan from Tennessee, Vaughn from Ole Miss, Fisher from Florida State, Scott from South Florida, Kelley from Central Florida, and the Rutgers and Auburn coaches. All of those coaches really seem to want me to come there and make an impact with them as a freshman."

What are Smith's thoughts on Ole Miss?

"They really want me badly. They have been after me real hard. Coach Vaughn said I had a better spring than any receiver they currently have on their team. He said I was the best athlete on their board. He just wants me to give them a chance which I am. If my official visits were today, they would definitely be one of them."

When it does come decision time; what will be the main factors?

"I want to go with the staff that I feel the most comfortable with, and I want it to be a great academic school where I can graduate. But mainly, I just want a chance to make an impact as a freshman."
