Drew Allen "relieved" with newest offer

Drew Allen visited Ole Miss early in the recruiting process and felt a bond from the start with the Rebel staff. Now that relationshp looks to have taken the next step as Scout.com's #31 rated QB received his first SEC scholarship offer.

"Coach Austin (from Ole Miss) sent me an email telling me to call Coach Nutt," added Drew Allen. "Me and Coach Austin have been talking three of four times a week for three or four months now. We have become pretty close, so I called Coach Nutt and he told me that they just sent me an offer in the mail."

How did Drew respond back?

"I was very excited. It was kind of relieving. I have been waiting for that offer because I have built a close realationship with Coaches Austin and Nutt. I think Coach Nutt is genuine and he is going to make that team into a big time winner. I really think Ole Miss is going to go a long ways while I am in college. That is exciting to have an opportunity to play for a program in that position. There is nothing like taking a program from the bottom to the top. I also like Coach Austin a lot because he played my position and actually played for Ole Miss. What better person to give you advise than someone that has been in his shoes? Plus, he is just such a great coach, very knowledgable. I have just been really comfortable with Ole Miss from the start, and it was nice knowing I now have an opportunity to play for them if that is what I choose to do."

Allen was planning to take his second unofficial visit to Ole Miss as early as next week, but those plans have been put on hold.

"Me and my dad are trying to get a date that is compatable to the Ole Miss coaches schedule. We want to come back when both Coach Nutt and Austin are there, but they are going to be gone on vacation. We were going to come over early next week, but we are going to wait and match up our dates. I am ready to visit Ole Miss again because I want to compare it to the other schools I have visited this summer."

Where all has Drew visited?

"Unofficially, I went to Duke, Wake Foreest, and Colorado. I have also been to Oklahoma, OSU, Baylor, and SMU camps."

Where will Drew visit next?

"Right now, unless something pops up, I am pretty much done with camps, but this Thursday I am headed to Vandy to check out their program."

The 6' 5", 200 pound signall caller is up to nine offers, as he was also offered by Kansas State recently.

"I have offers from New Mexico State, Wake Forest, Colorado, Purdue, UTEP, Vanderbilt, Duke, Ole Miss, and Kansas State."

Anymore programs outside of Vandy that are heavily invoved with Allen's recruitment that have yet to offer?

"Oklahoma is also on me real hard. Coach Huepel said they were really impressed with my tape and my performance in front of them. I think they are getting pretty close. Coach Brewer also told me that they were getting real close offering me. They are really high on me."

Which programs have stood out so far?

"Me and my dad were talking about that the other day. I am just not too sure right now. I want to see Vandy, Purdue, Kansas State, and I want to check out Ole Miss again before I make up my mind. I really do not have any favorites. All of the schools who have offered me all have passing offenses. That part of the puzzle is now solved. They all want to pass the ball. That was important to me. Next is what their staffs, players, and campuses are like. That is what these next few visits are for, to get a feel for all of the programs I am looking at. After that, I want to take my time and make the right decision for me. I have been going back and forth. I go back and forth. I say I want to make the right decision by the time the season starts, but then I tell myself that if it does not happen, it does not happen. I have to make the right decision, period. When I make it is not important."

As a junior, Allen passed for 2,589 yards and 28 touchdowns and added an additional 254 yards and five touchdowns on the ground to earn All-District honors.
