Rebels eye Memphis tailback

The 5' 11", 185 pound tailback out of Kingsbury set the Shelby County (Memphis surrounding area) rushing record last season when he marched his way for 2, 679 yards and 29 TD's.

Gabriel Hunter also broke the single game rushing record with 436 yards and 4 TD's against Munford.

"I am not going to lie, I had goals to break those records going into my junior season," added Gabriel. "If you do not set your goals high, you will never get to the top."

When watching this scat back run the ball, you notice a couple of things.

"I have great vision and cutting ability. But the main thing is that I never quit. I am determined not to go down."

At last report, Tennessee's Mr. Football finalist, had received early scholarship offers from Tennessee, Memphis, Vandy, Ole Miss, and Alabama, but that number has grown.

"I also have offers from Texas Tech, Oklahoma State, Louisville, Arkansas, and Auburn."

Gabriel just got back in from one of the Alabama camps this past Saturday.

"Their running back coach likes me a lot. He seemed like they were interested in me. Coach Stack said they offered me, but I still have not gotten in the mail yet. He told me to not worry about that. He said I have a spot no matter what. I told him I wanted to see it in writting (laugh). He was like, oh yea, we got that coming to you. But I like Alabama. They have been one of my favorites since I was young. I like their coaches, and I have seen their campus a few times."

Where will this talented back head next?

"I am going to Ole Miss' senior camp in July, and I might be going to an Auburn camp. I do not know about that one yet."

The running back coach at Ole Miss has Gabriel interested.

"Coach Derrick Nix; we real cool. We talk a couple of times a week. I like him a lot."

Auburn's new spread offense has him intersested in the Tigers.

"I met a couple of their coaches when they came over to the school. They said I had an offer. They think I will be a good fit in their new offense."

Who else stands out?

"Oklahoma State and Texas Tech."

"A player I played with last year, Jamal Mosley, he signed with OSU and they are looking at me too."

"I like Texas Tech's coaches. I talked to one of them last week. They have the #1 offense in the country, but they pass the ball all of the time, so I I do not know about them."

Which school that has not offered, is showing Hunter the most interest?

"Mississippi State. They have been recruiting me a lot."

When it does come decision time; what will be the main factors?

"Can I connect with their players and coaches? What is their campus like? And what are my chances of playing when I come in? Those three things will be everything for me. That is what it will all come down to."
