"I have just been working out with my team all summer getting ready for the season," added Mike Marry. "I did not go to any camps or anything like that. I just worked out with my team."
Mike did get a chance to take in one unofficial visit this offseason though.
"I went to Florida to see the campus, but that was it. They have a pretty good campus and the coaches are friendly and nice. They are real cool. I like how they run everything."
What stood out the most about the Gators during the visit?
"I just like how much the coaches are involved. They never stop working."
Last season the 6' 3", 215 pound Largo product collected 146 stops, 4 sacks, and 3 interceptions. He was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year in Pinoles county.
"Some of the schools like me at defensive end, but I like linebacker more. I have a nose for the ball, and I never give up. I like being in the middle of it, and when you are at defensive end, they can run away from you too much."
Mike has been offered by too many schools to list, but the first day that the coaches were allowed to make phone contact (September 1st), he heard from several of them.
"Pretty much all of the Florida schools called. Nothing has really changed. It is the same schools, the Florida schools, Stanford, Kentucky, Duke, Ole Miss, West Virginia, Michigan. I am pretty much getting calls from all of them. North Carolina too. Everybody is staying in touch."
Which coaches has Marry built a close relationship with?
"Coach from who is now at Michigan. I like how they give all of their freshmen a chance to play. West Virginia has not really been in touch since Coach Fry left. The Central Florida coaches call a lot. I talk to them on the phone a lot."
Which colleges have a scholarship in writing?
"Man, Central Florida, South Florida, West Virginia, Michigan, Duke, Kentucky, Ole Miss, Purdue, Vandy, Stanford, Iowa State, and Iowa State."
Who is coming after Mike the hardest?
"Michigan, Stanford, and Central Florida."
When it does come decision time; what will be the main factors?
"Just how their coaches treat their players, and I want to see if they give their freshmen early playing time."
