Juco OL has many options

The 6' 5", 305 pound offensive tackle out of Coffeeville CC arrived back from the Texas Tech/Oklahoma Satate, and to no surprise, James was simply blown away.

"That was a great game," added the always personable James Carpenter. "I liked everything about it at Tech. I like the fact that I can play early over there. I like the game atmosphere. I had no idea it was like that. I liked the facilities. I liked the coaches. I just liked everything about it."

What new did the Hephzibah (GA) product learn about Tech?

"Before I went over there, I only knew they were in the Big 12. I knew they liked the pass the ball a lot and led the country in offense, but that was about it. They showed me everything, and I just liked everything about it. I did not know that the crowd would be that wild. I know that (laugh)."

While the Red Raiders did receive a "bump" from the visit, there are still several other schools in the mix.

"I am going to Oklahoma on November 21st, Ole Miss on November 28th, and Alabama on December 5th. I am going over to Kansas this weekend on an unofficial visit."

Did the Sooners offer?

"Yes, they said they were impressed with me, and they want me to take an official visit over there before I graduate in December."

South Carolina and Oklahoma State also offered? Are they still in the mix?

"South Carolina is, but Oklahoma State is out of it now."

One more college has been dropped off of his list.

"Iowa State is out of it too."

What stands out with Ole Miss right now?

"They have been recruiting me the longest. They are recruiting me hard. I like the situation they have for me, playing in the SEC and getting some early playing time. They want me to take over for Michael Oher. I am also real close to Coach Markuson. He has sent a lot of linemen to the league. Coach is always keeping close tabs with me."

And Alabama?

"I just started talking to them lately. They said they want me to talk to Saban first when I come on my visit."

Kansas has also been with the NJCAA All-American from the start.

"They have been in the game for me. I have been talking to Coach Reagon for a while. They offered me a long time ago. I am going to go check it out over there this weekend and go from there."

Who is coming after Carpenter the hardest?

"Texas Tech and Ole Miss. I have to say those two."
