Nutt visits Montez Phillips

Coaches Houston Nutt and Mike Markuson did not have to travel far to go check up on their 6' 2", 200 pound commitment out of Oxford. To see how the inhome visit went on Monday, click below.

"Coach Nutt talked about me coming on my (official) visit on the (January) 23rd," added Montez Phillips. "He likes my size, and he told me it was wide open for me to earn a starting position with Michael Wallace leaving. Coach (Nutt) said I could get some snaps out wide, and in my second year, they could work me in at Dexter McCluster's spot because I can run and throw. And by my third year, I should be the go to guy like Shay Hodge."

Phillips was impressed.

"I liked what he told me. I told him that I was pretty straight with it, and I am cool with it."

The MS/AL All-Star selection was still keeping his options open while remaining committed to Ole Miss, but yesterday's meeting solidities things.

"I am pretty straight with it. I am solid with it. I will probably be signing with them in February. I like what they have planned for me."

Montez had over 1, 300 yards of offense and 18 TD's of offense as a senior.
